Dear fellow researchers, I have been looking for the roots of my Kinyon ancestors for the last six years. I have a copy of what looks like old Bible records that gives all the family birth records and the marriage records of the father Benoni, mother Caty Kinyon and place of birth for the nine children as New York & New Jersey. I finally found the baptisms of the first two boys at the Antheneum Library in Pittsfield, MA in a NYG&BR book of early Reformed Dutch Church NY baptisms. This is what I found: 1796 Ouders Kinders Getuygen Benoni Kinyors Cornelius Cornelius Low; Catherine Low Catherine Low b. 27 Aug. Page 478 - Baptisms 1799 Ouders Kinders Getuygen Benoni Kenyon, Jahn Van Houten John Van Houten Catharine Low b. 8 Feb.1799 Ouders = Parents Kinder = Child Getuygen = Sponsor The dates and names match what I have on copies of the old bible records. Next I found on the Olive Tree website, baptisms for Reformed Dutch Church, Totowa, Bergen, NJ: # Benone Cinen, Caty low; Maria, b 1 Jan, bp 24 Jan 1802; Wits De Vader, En Polley low Ibid, p. 126 Ouders Benone Cinyen, Caty Law; Getuygen De Vader En Moder; Naem Jeams; Geboren De 3 June; Gedoopt De 21 July 1805 (This one was found for me by Richard Van Houten) at Totowa, Bergen, NJ. Again, the information matches closely what is on the old "Bible pages". So, it looks like Kinyon is Dutch, which is what the Ellis History of Colombia, NY. has stated. I have not found the marriage of Benoni & Caty nor the next five children. I would appreciate any advise you might have. I am searching all the Reformed Dutch records I find on line. I have a 1820 Census showing Benoni Kinyon in Hillsdale, Columbia, NY. I also have land and guardianship records for Cornelius in Hudson, NY in the 1830s and 1840s. Benoni birth date is 20 Aug 1768. Caty is 13 Dec 1776. Marriage date is 5 Apr 1794. Rest of children: Betsy 22 Aug 1807, Caty 23 Jan 1813, Andrew J. 18 Sep 1815. George 8 May 1821. Ira 4 Mar 1824. I have seen the mention of various records on this list, but cannot tell how you access them from the comments made. Any ideas for further research will be very much appreciated. Sincerely, Phyllis in Oregon
