    1. [NYCOLUMB] FAMILY OF ELISHA & JEREME KINNE / KINNEY / KENNY
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Kinne, Kenny, Kinney, Cady, Jackson, Stranahan, Fitch Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/VRB.2ACE/4724 Message Board Post: HELP IS REQUESTED TRACING THE FAMILY OF JEROME / JEREMY KINNE / KINNEY / KENNY’S FAMILY I am looking for information on the family of Jeremiah/Jeremy Kinne, son of Elisha and Thankful [FITCH] Kinne / Kenny of Canaan, Columbia County and Granby, Oswego Co., NY The members of this family included Jeremy, b 1779; Erastus, b 1781; Anna, b 1783; John, b 1785; Stephen Fitch, b 1789; Rebecca, b c 1793; States, b 1797; and Elisha Jr. b 1809. There may have been others. Tracing this family is confused by the various spellings of Kinne, such as Kenny and Kinney Elisha Kinne & his wife, Thankful Fitch, arrived in Canaan, Columbia Co., NY from Worthington, Mass., in time to be included in the census of 1800 with a family consisting of 2 2 2 – 2 1 - 1 1 2. Elisha Kinne on 10 February, 1802, purchased a 150 acre farm in Canaan for $2500 from Samuel Potter. This farmland was bordered by the properties of Philip Frisbee, William Stranahan, Patrick Hamilton & Ezra & Oliver Cady. On March 29, 1820 Elisha Kinne obtained a small mortgage in order to purchase 7 acres of land in Canaan. In the description of this land reference is made to “a white pine? standing in the line of land belonging to Jereme Kinny…” Jereme Kinne signed this document as a witness. Also in the census of Canaan in 1820 was the family of Jeremiah Kenny, page 302. The ages of this family suggest that Jeremiah Kenny was married c 1805, and he & his wife had two children born before 1810 and two more born c 1810 – 1815. On 3 May, 1828, Jerome Kinney of the town of Lysander, Onondaga Co., paid $450.00 to Chauncey Betts and Mariah Ann, his wife of Lysander, for “All that part of military Lot number twenty seven of the original township of Lysander (and now town of Granby) being north half of subdivision number three of said lot.....containing fifty-one acres and fourteen hundreds of an acre of land...” This transaction was carried out two of years after Elisha Kinne Sr. died in Canaan. In the 1830 census of Granby, Oswego County, NY Jeremy Kinne & family are found with what appears to be three children i.e. 1 male of 5 & under 10; 1 female of 15 & under 20; 1 female of 20 & under 30. An older female, presumed to be his wife, was age 40 & under 50. Comparing Jeremy Kinney’s wife’s census age in 1820 compared to her age in 1830, it appears she was born c 1775-1780. On 14 January, 1839 Jerome Kinne and Mary, his wife, town of Granby, Oswego Co., NY sold 100 acres of land (reserving however, a small piece of ground occupied as a burying ground.)…” in the town of Canaan. This sale follows the death of Thankful Fitch Kinne in 1838. She was Jerome’s mother. Jeremy Kinney lived next to Elias Cady Jr in the census of 1840 in the town of Granby, Oswego Co., N.Y. His family consisted of 1 male of 5 and under 10; 1 male 10 and under 15; 1 male 15 and under 20; 1 male, 60 and under 70; 2 females, 15 and under 20; & 1 female of 40 and under 50. The 1840 census includes a much larger family group than was previously listed in other census years. This raises the possiblilty that Jeremy’s first wife died and he remarried a widow with children of her own. Her name may have been Mary. No further information has been found concerning Jeremy Kinne's whereabouts after 1840. It is not known if he died in the 1840s or moved to a new location. Question – Does anyone have any family history or genealogy or further information on Jeremy Kinne’s children, the name of his wife or wives, and other family background? Such information would be very much appreciated as I am trying to determine of Jereme had a second wife, and whether perhaps she was Mary Jackson Cady who was the widow of William Cady, son of Elias Cady. Sincerely, David Rogers.
