    3. Subject: Whitman / Mead Whitman I am working on my Whitman line: My third great grandfather is below. I do not have much if any on the Mead line. I come through Philters. I have Thomas T. Whitman born 1801 in Columbia (we believe) who is my ancestor. Thomas was listed as a shoemaker in the 1850 and 1860 census. We believe Thomas's father was Samuel Whitman. Samuel is listed in 1810 Census in Chatham, Columbia, New York. There is a Samuel Sr. in 1800 census and a Samuel, Jr. In 1810 There is Samuel Whitman and Widow Whitman again in Chatham, New York. (So the Sr. must have died). In 1820 Samuel is again listed in Chat ham, Columbia, New York. In 1830 Samuel is again listed in Chat ham, Columbia, New York. He is not listed in 1840 and so I believe he died in that time period. Thomas married Eliza Ann Mead (Meed) also born 1803. Thomas and Eliza's children: Philetus born 12 July 1827 Maria L. Whitman born 1840 Henrietta born 1842 Phebe Elizabeth born 1840/1846 Samuel Frederick Whitman born 1848 I find Thomas in Manhattan City Directory in 1829-1830 as shoemaker primary address 43 Forsyth and again in 1839-40 as shoemaker with address 317 Houston In 1830 Thomas is in Chatham, Columbia, New York In 1840 I find Thomas in Springfield, Otsego, New York By 1850 Thomas is listed in Ward 17th Ward in New York City. In 1860 they are in McLean County, Illinois where the children (Philetus, Maria, etc.) get married. In 1870 he and Eliza are listed together by 1880, Eliza moves in with her daughter. Can anyone help me with these names with marriage, or wills or anything? Carin Carin M.B. Green-Werner Phoenix Secretarial Services Cell: (801) 420-1172 Office: (801) 794-0094 Fax: (801) 794-9440
