One other thing - his wife's maiden name was Lally. Has anyone run across this name in the Canaan area? They were married in Ireland, but some of her relatives could have come over with them. -----Original Message----- From: nycolumb-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:nycolumb-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Wendy McLean Sent: Sunday, October 18, 2009 12:29 PM To: nycolumb@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [NYCOLUMB] Fallon / Follen / Folland - in Canaan c. 1860 to 1870 I don't see them in the 1860 Federal census. Was that the state census? I like to look at the names of families nearby because I can often tell where in Canaan they were living, which sometimes provides hints. Divorce was very rare in that time period. Did you check to see if he served in the Civil War? Bill - I don't see any "Lally" surnames in the federal census either. I am pretty familiar with the Canaan surnames of that time period, and I have to say that I don't even vaguely recall any Lally's. There were Fallons in nearby West Stockbridge, MA. Canaan never had a Catholic Church. Not a lot of Irish surnames. I'm still puzzled as to what census records you are looking at. I don't see any Fallons in the Federal census for 1870. I would love to help, but I need some clarification. On 10/18/09 4:30 PM, "William Coley" <nymets42@optonline.net> wrote: > One other thing - his wife's maiden name was Lally.
