My maternal grandfather was Sylvester Perry Johnson. He was the grandson of Sarah Maria Holmes (1819-1899). She was the daughter of Sylvester and Ann (Tripp) Holmes. Sylvester was the son of Jabez and Susanna. Jabez Jr. served in the Revolutionary War, 17th Regiment of Albany Couty Militia; in fact, Jabez Sr. and Experience (daughter of Edward Cleveland of Canterbury, Conn.) had 8 children: Sarar B., Experience, Palmer, Jabez, John, Jedediah, Roswell, and Lydia. Of the boys, only Palmer did not serve in the Revolutionary War. The longer part of this story begins with the Cooke's of England. Francis Cooke came to America in 1620 on the Mayflower. In 1623 Hester Cooke came to the New World. Other names associated with the Mayflower and, eventually, Holmes are: Allerton, Cushman, and Hopkins. I am interested in finding out more about the Johnson line. I know, only, that Sylvester Holmes had a daughter Sarah Maria (1819) who married William Chauncey Johnson. She had two children Albertus Brownwell and Sylvester Perry Johnson. These reports were obtained from Colonial Records of Holmes family (Prof. Adolphus H. Sage, 147 W. 62nd St., NY, NY: 1922, and "Old Family Bible" of Sylvester Holmes, Sr. in possession of W.F. Holmes, LeRoy, NY). Anything else you know and would share would be very cool.
