Parents unknown. He married Annie Townsend on the 27h of October, 1748 at Hebron, Tolland County, Connecticut. They settled in Duchess County, Province of New York. They later moved to Chatham, Kings District, Albany County. This would become part of Columbia County in 1786. Joseph and Annie had 8 children, one of which was named James, born 14th of October, 1760. He married Mary (Unknown) in abt. 1782. They had 10 children, one of which was named Chesley, born 17th of April, 1792. They moved to Stormont County, Upper Canada in 1805. Chesley married Elizabeth Ruport in Osnabruck Township, Stormont County in 1813. They had nine children, one of which was my great grandfather James, born in 1824. He moved to Hastings County in 1858. He married my great grandmother Maria Snider in 1859. They had several children but only three managed to survive.
