I am looking for a connection to my great great grandfather John Oscar Pitts b. 1836 in Ohio. Possibly his father is James Pitts who was also listed in the Ohio census. A marriage record for James shows his father's name was Joseph. I had received a clue that James was born in Columbia County New York to a father named Joesph. Going to the wills and testaments sections of ancestry.com, sure enough there it was under Joseph Pitts. I saw the Canadian connection and wondered because I have a Squires with Pitts DNA listed within 7 generations of a common ancestor. Her family was from the Newfoundland area around Bell Island. With the information you gave me, I don't think we are directly related, although I need to investigate the Pitts family in Columbia County New York more throughly.
