It's the names she gave her sons that's driving this search for the ancestors of the first John H. & Mariah Van Vleek/Clake (see below). Dr. Elton Palmer d. bef 1920, & his widow is still in Claverack in 1930. 9. Ada: b. Dec 1866, m. Albert John Ham. Five children, lived in Bridgeport, CT 1920, no trace after that. Name later spelled Hamm. 10. Frank: b. abt 1868. in parents' household, 1880, Claverack, no trace after that. Sarah Janet (Van Vleek) Palmer gave her sons the following names, the ones in CAPITALS have no connection to her husband's Palmer/Elton families - assuming therefore they point to the ancestry of the original John H. & Mariah Van Vleek/Clake: Harold Coleman Palmer, b. 1880 Albert GEIGER Palmer, b. Oct 1884 Allan ROSSMAN Palmer, b. Mar 1887 Frank VAN VLEEK Palmer, b. Jul 1888 Oscar ZIMMERMAN Palmer, b. Sep 1889 Clarence BEDFORD Palmer, b. Mar 1892 Donald CAPEN Palmer, b. Oct 1897 ROELIF ELTINGE Palmer, b. Apr 1899 There were 9 Rossman families in Columbia Co in 1790, the family of Stephen & Rachel (Briant) Bedford moved into the area in the 1770s, and the original Roelif Eltinge died in New Paltz in 1795 - looking for the links from these families to John H. & Mariah Van Vleek, who were both born in the 1820s. I have no clue where the names Geiger, Zimmerman or Capen fit in. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
