I was thinking it may be a name change. I am trying to help a person whose gr grandparents were John and Emily Surrine. His grandmother was Mary E Surrine who married a Michael Smith. I have not been able to find her at all before her marriage to Michael. I only find John and Emily in the 1910 and 1920 Census. I should be able to find John in the 1860-1870-1880-1900 census but nothing. I'll try that spelling and the Massachusetts area.
