The surname has so many spellings ! My gt.grandmother was a Shultes; her father left a memoir suggesting the family's name originated in Dresden, Germany where the name was Schulteis. His father is listed in Erie County, NY as Shultis. There were three brothers in Esopus: David, William and Barent in mid 1700s. Some put a "c" in the spelling.
My gr gr grandmother was Marrietta Shultus born c. 1794, NY, Columbia CO. ? ; d. 1836 Erie Co.,NY; m. Timothy Clark 1815, Montgomery Co.,NY. I am trying to establish a connection between her and the other Shultus settlers in Erie Co.; One of her sons was named Philip, researching into the possibility of a connection with Philip Shultis /Shultis, 1810 Census Columbia Co.; also a possible connection to Johann Philip Schultus b. 1694 and Anna Maria Remagen b. 1698.; A Shultus Desc. has been kind enough to send me records of this family. There are many possibilities with all the names she gave to me. I would like to exchange information, Can anyone help me with a bapt record for Marrietta Shultus.
