    3. I think this question has been asked before but I have combed the archives and cannot find it. Where would I write to see if a death certirficate for 1870 is available in Austerlitz? -Grace

    3. Grace, Vital records in NY were not preserved before 1880, except for a 1-3 year period around 1847. You might want to read my webpage concerning various kinds of NY Records which explains this and a lot more. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~clifflamere/Aid/AID-NYRecords.htm Cliff Grace Coffman wrote: > I think this question has been asked before but I have combed the archives > and cannot find it. 3. Grace, I forgot to point out that Albany, Buffalo and Yonkers began collecting their vital records earlier than the rest of New York State. Albany started in 1870 (according to the city's Vital Statistics office), and the other two cities about the same time. Cliff.
