I was wondering if anyone could help me locate the present day location of some ancestors grave stones. In The Columbia. v1(2) 1985, it states that Martin Krum is buried at the Dunarin (Dunavin) residence, Chatham Center. He was buried in 1801 so I'm curious if there is still some type of marker at his resting place. Does anyone happen to know if the Dunarin residence still exists or how I could find out who the present day owner is? I'm planning a trip back to NY from my home in California and I would like to visit the site if possible. Thank you. Nathan
Nathan, On my website there is a list of 60,000 names of people buried in Columbia Co. Also there is a list of 359 cemeteries to be used in conjunction with the names. See Vital Records-Deaths, then Columbia Co. There is a Martin Krum listed as buried at the Dunavin Residence as you stated. Using the cemetery list, you will find instructions as to how to get a photocopy of the page on which the record was published. Columbia Co. Historical Society has the book. Sometimes directions were given so that you would at least be in the vicinity. I didn't have room in the database to copy the directions which were sometimes extensive. Also, some route numbers have changed, and very often the property is no longer owned by the same family (most of the gravestones were transcribed in the 1930s) so it didn't seem like terribly useful information except for someone like yourself. As an alternate solution, I made arrangements with CCHS so that you can get the information easily and cheaply if you want it. CCHS might be able to tell you more about its location after they read any directions given. Since the stone was read as recently as 1969, there is a good chance that it is still there. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~clifflamere/ Good luck.
