SMITH of Claverack, Kinderhook and Chatham. He was said to be the son of James SMITH "of Claverak". He lived in Claverack until after 1810, then Kinderhook, then settled in Chatham in 1819. Solomon appears to have had two wives, the second of whom was Mary WHITE (1783-1843), apparently connected to the WHITES of Hillsdale. Apparent children by both marriages were (not necessarily in birth order): (1) Cynthia SMITH m. Philip SMITH and settled in Woodstock, Ulster County, NY; (2) Abigail SMITH m. George LANE and settled by 1830's in Sodus, Wayne Co., NY, where she is described as a widow; (3) Charity SMITH m. first, John EMERY, second _____ HULSE, also apparently removed to Wayne County, NY; (4) Charlotte Mary SMITH m. Aaron SMITH; (5) Sally SMITH m. John W. SCHERMERHORN and relocated to Wayne Co., NY, thence to Michigan; (6) Catherine Eliza SMITH m. John G. WESTFALL in Kinderhook, removed to Wayne Co., NY; (7) Hannah SMITH m. Elijah S. M. STEVES; (8) Jane SMITH m. Jacob JARVIS; (9) Abram P. SMITH m. Elizabeth COTTEN, lived in N. Chatham, d. ca. 1901; (10) Lorena SMITH m. Ovid VINCENT in Wayne Co., NY; (11) John SMITH; (12) Amanda L. SMITH m. Henry DENISON; (13! ) Richard SMITH; (14) Charles SMITH; and (15) Phebe Ann SMITH.
