John BAGLY, the son of John Bagly and Neeltje Shufelt (155) was born September 6, 1796, and baptized at the Reformed Dutch Church of Hillsdale (Krum Church), November 3, 1807, with "John Shufeldt and wife Catharine" sponsoring. The record of Baptism lists the parents names as "John Bagly and Neeltie Shufeldt." -------------------- Neeltje SHUFELT, the daughter of Johannes Shuffelt and Sara Freer, was born April 14, 1770, and baptized at Albany Reformed Church, October 22, 1777, with "Arent Zoufel and Neeltje Freer" serving as sponsors. The baptismal record lists the parents as "Hannes Zoufel and Sara Freer." ------------------- Johannes SHUFELT was almost certainly the son of Johann Wilhelm Shufelt and Anna Maria Stahl, born about 1733, Minisink, NY, and married Sarah Freer at Rhinebeck Flats Reformed Church, February 24, 1758. Sara Freer was the daughter of Hugo Freer and Maria Dewit, baptized "Zara," Rhinebeck Reformed Church, Dutchess County, August 3, 1735, with " Johannes _______ and Zara Van Wagening" sponsoring. The baptismal record lists the parents as "H(ugo) Freer; Maria (Dewit)." ------------------ Johann Wilhelm SHUFELT, the son of Johann Georg Shufelt and Anna Catharina Zaam, was born September 1,1707. Records of the Allendorf Church list sponsers at the baptism as Wilhelm Schroder, Johannes Sauer, Catharina - wife of Jost Sauer, and Marg. Cath. - wife of Jost Kurtz. Dutchess County Tax Lists indicate a Johan William Souffelt on the North Ward roll in 1729; he then disappears from Dutchess County until his reappearance on North Ward rolls in 1739/40. Hank Jones suggests, and this compiler agrees, that the marriage entries of his sons Adam and Johannes suggest that during the period 1730 - 1738, Johann Wilhelm and his family resided in the Minisink region of Orange County. Johann Wilhelm married Anna Maria Stahl. Anna Maria Stahl was the daughter of Johann Stahl and his wife Anna Ursula, born October 31, 1711, and baptized at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at West Camp, Town of Saugerties, Ulster County, November 12, 1711. Sponsors at the baptism were "Johann Peter Oberbach; Anna Maria, daughter of Wilhelm Kuster; and Anna Elisabeth Mullerin." The baptismal record lists the parents of the child as "Johann Stahl; Anna Ursula," and includes the comment that the "Baptism occurred in the upper German Colonies." HTH Jim Groat
