    3. We are searching for the lives of these two individuals whom we were taught were our ggggrandparents but of whom we can find no trace after several generations of looking. Was James Carley b. 1797 in W. Copake? Who were his family? Was Chestina Treman a daughter of Jared Treman as his will indicates, and born in Hillsdale in 1796? Were they married in this area in 1813 or 1814? and on. Bob

    3. I think your James is the James Carl (b.1797) I've found listed as a son of James Carl (b.abt.1758) and Mary Rody (b.1761) who were married Nov.7, 1780, at Linlithgo Reformed Church in what later became Columbia Co. James (b.abt.1758) was a son of Thomas Carl and Catherine Duytser (b.1735, d.bef.1785) who were married May 20, 1756. According to info from http://www.clampett.net/centre/genealogy/index_genealogy.htm although James' (b.abt.1758) and Mary's eldest child was born in Linlithgo, NY, the only other chikl whose birthplace is listed was born in W.Copake. The descendants of Thomas Carl were fairly flexible in their spelling of the last name with close relatives buried in Union Cemetery, Ancram (near W.Copake) using Carl & Carle equally often on markers. 3. Hi Bob: I could find no Carleys in the book "Baptism Record Reformed Church West Copake, N.Y. 1783-1899" by Arthur C. M. Kelly, Kinship, Rhinebeck, NY 1969 but I did find a family with the name of Cearl/Carl/Kerl/Karl. Just to let you know the church burned down twice so there are very few records remaining. I do hope this the the Carley family you are looking for. Hope this helps.
