    3. Hello list, anyone out there know where I can find the old (late 17 early 1800's) land records for Copake? Does Copake have them? or are they somewhere else? Thanks for any help, JB

    3. Land deeds would be kept by the county clerk's office at the capital of any county in NY. For Columbia Co., that would be at Hudson. For further information, see my Guide to Albany Area Genealogical Resources. It is listed under Research Sites on my website. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~clifflamere/ Cliff John Bedard wrote: > > Hello list, > > anyone out there know where I can find the old (late 17 early 1800's) land > records for Copake? 3. John, You may find a problem in looking for land deeds in Copake for the years you are interested in. The title in fee in Copake was held by the Livingston Family of Livingston Manor, of which Copake was a part of. The residents held the land under leases from the Livingstons. You might want to put another message on the list with the names you are looking for. There are Road District lists of the early 1800s for Livingston which included the Copake area, that might have something in them.
