    1. [NYCOLUMB] TURNER FAMILY
    2. Diane
    3. Hi Jim, and thanks for the note. Indeed Nancy Kelley was Isaac's wife. Because she was so much younger, her daus. were able to pass on some little info on Nancy. Also, there was an article in a Scranton newspaper in 1937 about one dau. and she had some memories to share as well including Isaac's birth date/place. I am becoming more skeptical re the FR info, however. The John Turner next door to Isaac in 1850 census, I feel, is a son by an earlier marriage. John had a son w the same name as one of Isaac's sons - Milton. Plus the fact twins ran in the family (thank God it stopped by my generation!) and John had 2 sets; Isaac 1 set. Another of Isaac's sons (by Nancy) also had 2 sets. I have been after Isaac for so many years and have tried every angle I can think of. His 1812 records show nothing of gene. value at all. The cemetery where he is buried has only a War/1812 plaque - no stone - and no church records. Another thing that amazes me is there are other Turners in that area yet no one has ever contacted me (and I have posted many queries) w even the vaguest idea of a relationship. Ever onward!! 3. Hi Diane, The query sounded familiar, but I had forgotten that Susan and Jim Brady were all over it a few months back. At least my conclusions agree. I looked quickly at some Wayne Co. PA census data. At Salem in 1850, there is a John Turner 40 born NJ with family next to Isaac. This suggests Isaac was there and may have had other children as well. Could Nancy born 1822 with children born in the 1850's and 1860's be a daughter-in-law? I would be very leery of data that shows a man having children when he's close to 80, even if his wife was 35 years his junior! Good luck, Jim Harder

    1. [NYCOLUMB] TURNER - GYSBERT/FREDRICK/ISAAC
    2. Diane
    3. Hi Jim, and thanks for the note and info. Yes, I did have all this from a few months ago when a big Turner exchange went on. My problem was I did not have Geisbert b 1742 with Gysbert 1727. Looked over the info you just sent (apparently 1st time I did not get the picture) and in/out-ed all the appropriate folks. I also had 2 Freds for Geisbert 1742 - one w each wife, so fixed that as well. Whew! Well, my Isaac b 1788 could possibly have ambled down to Westchester Co. My problem, however, is there are Turner families there but not a lot of info on them and no Isaac to fit. It could be supposed my Isaac a French heritage that immigrated long b/f Isaac was born and his being born in Paris could all be a misunderstanding in our family. How about that for a stretch! My family lore also said he went to the Mid-West, wherever that is, and was married at least once b/f. I believe I have found a son from another marr. who lived right next door to Isaac in 1850 census. Again, thanks for reiterating the info - Diane * * * * * * ~ ~ ~ ~ Please check our Home Page ~ ~ ~ ~ * * * * * * http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/a/n/d/Sharon-D-Andreasen/ ~~~~~ Speak kind words/hear kind echoes ~~~~~ -----Original Message----- From: nycolumb-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:nycolumb-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of James Harder Sent: Tuesday, September 01, 2009 3:54 AM To: nycolumb@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [NYCOLUMB] TURNER - GYSBERT/FREDRICK/ISAAC Diane, Turns out the Turner that started this line comes from merry Olde England, as per this marriage record from the Albany Ref. 3. Diane, Turns out the Turner that started this line comes from merry Olde England, as per this marriage record from the Albany Ref. Church: 15 Nov 1702; William Turner, ym, b. in O.E., liv. here; Abigael Bogaert, liv. at Katskil in Alb. Co. Their son, also Albany Ref. Church: 7 Jan 1705; at Kinderhoek: Helmes Johannes, of William Turner and Abigail Bogaart. Sp.: Helmes Jansse and wife Anna. Other children there, also West Camp Luth. and Zion Luth. And probably his wife at Kingston Ref. Ch.: 1706 Aug 11; Annetie; Gysbert Oosterhout, Marytie Bogaart; Sp.: Jan Oosterhout, Antie Ploeg. I gave you their son from Linlithgo Ref. Ch.: 21 May 1727; Gysbert; Helm Dorner, Anneke; Sp.: Gysbert Oosterhoudt, Marytje. But he must have died, because later also at Linlithgo (mis-transcribed): 19 May 1742; Geisbert; Helm Korner, Anneke Oosterhout; Sp.: Jan Decker, Beletje Decker. Frederick was baptized at Churchtown, just a few miles east, then Isaac was at West Copake, just a few more miles east of that. Frederick’s mother was named Margaretha in the bapt. record, and Gysbert & Margaretha also sponsored another child at Churchtown, so this isn’t the Eva Kleyn at West Copake years later. Eva may be a second wife. Margaretha is possibly a Schmidt/Smith as per the sponsors: 4 Feb 1767: Frederich ; Geisbert Dorner, Margaretha, Sp.: Jacob Schmid, Magdalena Schmid. Isaac doesn’t show after his baptism in any of the Ref. Church records I have, which is a lot of them, unless his name is even more mangled than some of these records. I can see why you need a little more to link from Columbia Co. to Wayne Co., PA. (Sorry I had these Turners from Germany, but you have Isaac from France on your web-site, so I guess they’re taking a European tour!) Jim

    3. Diane, You may find more information on this family by searching for their probable German surname: DOERNER. Frederich was baptized 4 Feb 1767 at St. Thomas Luth. Ch., Churchtown, son of Geisbert DORNER & Margaretha. Gysbert was baptized 21 May 1727 at Linlithgo Ref. Church, son of Helm [Wilhelm] DORNER & Anneke. A Jacob DOERNER was among the group of Palatine immigrants in 1710, although I don't see a Wilhelm in the Palatine literature. Jim Looking for information on: Fredrik TURNER (son of Geisbert/Eva KLEYN) b 1764 marr. Marytje VREDENBERGH b 27 May 1764 Claverack. I am particularly interested in their grandson Isaac TURNER b 25 April 1788 (Baptism date 12/7/1788; Reformed Church of West Copake, Columbia Co., NY). Boy oh boy names are all familiar here! Rich Hummel is my husband's cousin and Evelyn was his Aunt Ev. I think I was in contact years ago with Marie Grab trying to dig up Reutenauer information! So you are related through the Reutenauers to my husband (Charlotte and Caroline being sisters). I actually show that their mother's name was Charlotte Heiny and she married Adam Reutenauer. Charlotte was born 11-1-1836 in Weislingen, Germany and died 7-17-1885 in the same place. I would love to share information, whatever you may have, concerning the Reutenauers or ANY part of my husband's family for that matter. Any family stories are especially appreciated! Do you have ANY pictures of the Reutenauers? My mother in law knew nothing about the Reutenauer side of her family so I've been hoping for things to turn up. I am happy to share whatever information I've been able to get my hands on - just let me know what you're looking for! Emil Moll is a difficult one.....! been looking for his background for quite awhile. Odd as it sounds, the name Emil Moll was very common in Germany - there's about a zillion of them. If you find anything along those lines, I would appreciate that too! Just let me know what you need. YOu can contact me directly @ kwischhusen@comcast.net Have a good day! I am grateful to get it. My mother Marie Lezette and your grandmom Evelyn were best of friends since their childhood. They were actually both born the same day 11-7-1920 and lived up the street from each other on Aitken Ave. Your dad Ken and Uncle Rich and family and our family shared loads of grand times at the Kiora Farm. Mom always said that we were related somehow and now I know how. I have an extensive tree at ancestry.com and i have some photos at home of your grandmother with my mom. I believe my sister has more. Some of your Dad and Uncle Rich too. When we were children, they lived and worked for the Firemans Home farming the land. Then I remember them moving to the Kiora farm. We have grand memories of spending weekends there and getting up at the crack of dawn to milk the cows, gather the eggs and such. I also visited your mother and dad after they built the house next to the farm when you and your sister were very little. I remember Dorothy Howard living up the street from us for a while when we were kids in Hudson. Then they moved up north somewhere. That would be Ev's sister i believe. My mother and father passsed away a few months after Evelyn, in Nov. I attended Aunt Evs memorial service with my sister, but could not stay afterwards since Dad was in Albany Med and we had to get there. Mom and Dad passed about 2 weeks apart. Can't take away the memories.. Hope to hear from you. And I am so glad that you had all this info posted. Joan Lezette Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [NYCOLUMB] Pre-1881 Birth Certificates Index
    2. Tonya Frickey
    3. Pre-1881 Birth Certificate Index Now Available Published: Friday, August 21, 2009 2:19 AM EDT ALBANY - Genealogists and other researchers will have even more information about New York births available to them now that a name index to 1,048 delayed birth certificates for events prior to 1881 has been placed in the New York State Archives and eight other locations around the state. New York State did not start issuing birth certificates until 1881. People born prior to 1881 began asking the state for birth certificates as early as 1900; however most were issued in the late 1930s and early 1940s so individuals could prove their age to receive benefits under the Social Security Act of 1935. These delayed birth certificates were issued for births ranging from 1823 to 1880, with most documenting births in the 1870s. The pre-1881 birth certificate index applies only to births in New York State and outside of the five boroughs of New York City. This new index was prepared by the New York State Department of Health and distributed by the New York State Archives. It contains the district number designating the county, first/middle/last name of child, date of birth, first/middle/last name of father, first/middle/last name of mother - usually her maiden name, and the date of filing the certificate. For the convenience of genealogists and other researchers, the index is sorted in three ways: 1) name of child; 2) maiden name of mother; 3) year of birth (newer to older). The pre-1881 birth certificate index and other genealogy indexes to New York State birth, marriage, and death certificates are available at the following locations: Albany - New York State Archives Buffalo - Buffalo & Erie County Public Library Elmira - Steele Memorial Library Glens Falls - Crandall Public Library New York City - National Archives (Northeast Region) Patchogue - Patchogue-Medford Library Rochester - Rochester Public Library Syracuse - Onondaga County Public Library Watertown - Flower Memorial Library For more information on vital record indexes, visit the New York State Archives' website at www.archives.nysed.gov and click on Research and then Vital Records. For more information about obtaining copies of birth, marriage, and death certificates, visit the State Department of Health's website www.health.state.ny.us. The New York State Archives, a part of the State Education Department in the Office of Cultural Education, preserves and makes accessible the essential recorded evidence - past and present - of New York's governments, organizations, peoples, and events. At its Albany facility, the State Archives cares for more than 200 million archival records of New York State government dating from the 1630s to the present. Opening its doors in 1978, the State Archives also offers technical assistance, financial support, and other services to local governments and community organizations in every region of the state. 1. [NYCOLUMB] More about certificates
    2. Cliff Lamere
    3. Death certificates began being collected by the state in 1880. Birth and marriage certificates began being collected by the state in 1881. Some *cities* began collecting vital records earlier than 1880. The complete list is: Albany (began in 1870), Binghamton, Buffalo (1878), Elmira, Newburgh, Poughkeepsie, Rochester, Syracuse, Utica, and Yonkers (1875). I don't have dates for when the other cities began collecting vital records. Albany, Buffalo and Yonkers were required to begin submitting marriage certificates to the state in 1908. Birth and death certificates weren't sent to the state until 1914. The earlier certificates were never sent to the state. Only the three cities have them. It is my impression that the other cities complied with the normal submission dates of 1880 for death certificates and 1881 for birth and marriage certificates. The state law makes certificates for genealogical research available to the public after 75 year (births) or 50 years (marriages and deaths). You don't have to prove a relationship to order a certificate that old. You have to prove a very close relationship to get one that is more recent. Cliff Lamere

    3. Clare, Contact the clerks of Hudson (a city) and Moira (the Town). If you are not certain about an exact location of death, contact the state since they have them for all locations in the state, outside of New York City, beginning in 1880. The state received very few that year, and not too many for the following few years, as has been pointed out by Cathy. Your relative died in Valatie, which is a village. The village clerk is the person to contact. Valatie is in the Town of Kinderhook. If a person died outside the village, but in the Town, the town clerk would issue the certificate. In the case of a city, the city clerk should be contacted. The county does not issue death certificates. The original hand written certificate is sent to the state. It will have the signature of the person giving the personal information, plus the signature of the doctor and undertaker. Locally, they copy all of the significant genealogical information into a ledger. To generate a certificate, the clerk copies the ledger information onto the form. The cost is $22 from either source. The state form has more information, but takes several months longer to get. Also, if you call the local town or village office, they will often tell you if they have the certificate. The state will not tell you ahead of time. They charge the fee even if they don't have the certificate. Many cities will not look up the death ahead of time. They also charge for a failed search. The clerk in a small office is usually less busy, so they may do a search while you wait.
