The first was in 1781 in New Salem, Hampshire County (New Salem is in Franklin County when it was created in December 1811) Massachusetts. We understand that the marriage was to Hopestill (AKA Haskins) Hoskins daughter of William and Mary (Cole) Hoskins IV. Two children were born to this union Nahum in July 1783 and William O. in 1785. The family then moved west for the free land due the Revolutionary War Veterans in 1785 leaving Massachusetts entirely. After a bit of wandering Amos brought his family to Canaan, Columbia County, NY by the 1790 census. He took land in the Lebanon Springs Valley near the town of New Lebanon. Our newest information on this family is that Hopestill (Haskins) King was living in 1798 or at least named when her father named his daughter as to receive legacy from his estate in Norfolk County, Massachusetts. >From the History of Johnson County, Nebraska we learned recently that Hopestill birthed 6 children and died shortly (the time frame is basically a scratch your header). Amos then married second to a Miss Bassett in or near Canaan who presented the family with 9 more children the youngest two known children are Luther Hiram and Horace. This post is about trying to find any information available on the Bassett Family with whom Amos married as his second wife. Our records show that of the 9 children 7 lived to maturity. At this time we first didn't know of the second marriage and still do not know when Hopestill King died or where Amos, Hope, and Mrs. ______ (Bassett) King are buried. Hi Wendy, There probably aren't any Lally's around Canaan since John and Bridget (Lally) Fallon were already married when they arrived in Canaan. They lived for a while in Pennsylvania (Philadelphia area, possibly) and were either married there or possibly before they left Ireland. They appear in Canaan in the 1860 census (the copy I included in my previous email) and the state census of 1865, but in the 1870 census the family was in Pittsfield, MA and John was gone. -----Original Message----- From: nycolumb-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:nycolumb-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Wendy McLean Sent: Sunday, October 18, 2009 6:47 PM To: nycolumb@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [NYCOLUMB] Fallon / Follen / Folland - in Canaan c. 1860 to 1870 Bill - I don't see any "Lally" surnames in the federal census either. Folks, I recently made contact with a distant cousin He is the 2nd great grandson of Luther King. While I am the 3rd great grandson of Nahum King. Luther and Nahum are brothers. That would make me his 4th cousin once removed. With this discovery I now have the marriage date for Luther King in New Lebanon (Lebanon Springs) Columbia County, New York. This cousin is the last of his line while mine was quite prolific in the baby making business. I would like some direction on how to find more information on Luther born in New Lebanon on 8 November 1806 (son of Amos and Hopestill (Haskins /Hoskins) King and Emeline born on 27 April 1809. I have the marriage date of 8 December 1829. There were two children born to this couple. A son John F. King was born on 26 August 1830 and his sister Elizabeth King born on 3 September 1833. There are according to the 1840 census other people living in this household. With this information I am now inquiring to anyone on this list how I might find more information on this family. Possibly who the other members of this household were and the parents of Emeline Campbell King. Thanks a bunch Daniel Eugene, Oregon
