I have transcribed the 1872-1891 baptisms of the Presbyterian Church in Valatie. There are 102 records, which is all that was available to me. The baptisms are for both adults and children, but the dates of birth are given for the children only. Someone on this list was kind enough to send me information from the Germantown Ref. Chbk. Can anyone tell me where I can find these records myself? Are they on film through the LDS? If they are, could someone please help me with a film number, as I can't seem to find a listing for that church on the LDS website. Would this Germantown Church information be available online? If so, where? I am looking specifically for the baptism of Jacob DIETRICH, bpt. 16 April 1754 in the Germantown Ref. Church. I need to look at a copy of the original writing. In spite of the fact that Henry Jones made a connection to this Jacob from my Jacob DITTRICK, the Loyalist in Canada, this baptism date is too early for my Jacob. The DITTRICK family kept good records, and staunchly defend that Jacob DITTRICK was born 16 Dec 1755, so he obviously could not have been baptized in 1754. I am wondering if there could have been a mistake in the transcription of the baptism date for Jacob DIETRICH in Germantown. Jacob DIETRICH was the son of Christian DIETRICH and Maria Elisabetha Emmerich SCHANTZ. Other than the baptism date, lots of information about Jacob DIETRICH fits our Jacob's profile. I don't have a federal census or obit will get it. I do have a copy of her marriage it gives no age for either the bride or groom and on her death certificate her son gives her birth date as march 3, 1860.

Hi, My name is Judy and I'm searching for a birth record for my grr-grandmother. Family legend has it that she was born in Canaan, NY 15 Sep 1862. My brother recalls her telling that the record of her birth was in the church, but the church burned down. She was of the Episcopal faith. Does anyone have knowledge of an Episcopal church in or around Canaan, NY that may have burned down in the latter part of the 1800s? Also, would anyone have any knowledge of the families living in Canaan at that time. It is thought that her mother may have "gone home" to her mother when she was due to have her baby. Try the 1860 Federal Census & the 1865 NY State Census.NY did not mandate vitals until 1880 & some places did not begin until after 1900.Also church records are a possibility. Deeds or surrogate's records for her parents may also help.
