I also located an Ann lockwood buried in Union Cementay in Mellenville. Book 34 page 86. I do not know if she would be Horace's wife. All seem to be located in Columbia County.

Anyway, one of the families in the story is named Van Alstyne. The spelling may have been different, can't remember. Maybe this family was one of our ancestral families. Just thought that would be interesting to someone. 3. I've posted the two photos that I have of circa 1910 baseball team at the following WebShots site: http://community.webshots.com/album/12533215dSAWBTYdCq In the uniform photo, my cousin James Maguire is 3d in from the right, seated. He grew up in Philmont and played for local teams but also played for a farm team called Chicago Indians. The 1910 championship photo has the names handwritten at the top. I'm hoping these may be Columbia County fellows who someone will recognize or know something about. We are thinking that the letters showing through on the shirts are 'ring' which could be for Springfield. Miki

    2. Miki Nilan
    3. Hi, I'm not sure if I've mentioned this here on the list before but I have a wonderful photo from 1910 of a baseball team believed to be a Philmont team. The photo was taken in honor of their having won the championship for that year. The surnames of the players etc. are hand printed across the top. Maybe someone will have a connection to one of the men in the photo. My cousin James Maguire of Philmont was team pitcher. Brandow, OF; McGuire, P; Myers, 2B; Jones, MGR; Teator, OF, Capt; Teats, SB; Near, C; Decker, OF; Robertson, OF; Van Valkenburgh, 3B; Shea, OF; Robertson, Mascot (a boy); Bell, 1B; Stapel, OF. [This last could be Stopel]. I also have a photo of this team or maybe of another team, no way of knowing, of the men in uniform, seated on benches for the photo to be taken. The letters we can make out on the jacket do not seem to say Philmont. Are there any Columbia County baseball officianados out there who might know something about this? Miki

    3. One good Vosburgh book is "The Vosburgh Family Then and Now" by June Vosburgh Stoesser, June 1993. The author's address at the time it was published was 1566 Cat Hollow Rd, Roscoe NY 12776-6804. I found it in a genealogy library in Houston but I don't live there anymore. The book is comb-bound. Most Vosburghs, at least in Columbia Co., were descended from Abraham Pieterse Vosburgh who came from Holland to New Netherlands about 1649 and was killed by Indians in 1659. -----Original Message----- From: Tricia [mailto:triciaarcher@juno.com] Sent: Wednesday, April 11, 2001 4:22 PM To: NYCOLUMB-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [NYCOL] Vosburgh Posted on: Columbia County NY. Philip and his family moved from Columbia Co. to Huron, Wayne Co. about 1833. Several of their other relatives moved nearby. 2. I would like to make the following request for information. I am looking for any information pertaining to Mary Garrabrant and Warren Sparrow who supposedly were born and married in New Jersey. She was born about 1834 and he was born around 1816. They had a daughter, amongst other children, named Mary Sparrow who married my great grandfather, Davis Lebarron. The Sparrow family moved to New York state around 1854, shortly after my great grandmother was born. I have spent a year trying to track these people down. Mary Sparrow was the favorite relative of my mother who is 93 and who wants to know more about her grandmother. Thank you for any assistance. P Waggoner.

    3. Coral, The marriage did not take place at the Kingston Reformed Church, which performed the most marriages in that area. I checked the book under all Be-, Ba-, Sco- and Scho- spellings. Outside of church records, you have little chance of finding a marriage or birth record before 1800 in NY. Justice of the Peace records don't exist from that time period. I also checked "Names of Persons for Whom Marriage Licenses were Issued by the Secretary of the Province of New York, Previous to 1784". I checked all spellings that you mentioned. No luck there either. Nearby Hurley had a Reformed Church, but I don't believe those records have been published. An historical society tends them. I would suggest that you take a look at the website for Ulster County, and possibly get on that county's mailing list. Some counties may have special records not know to outsiders like me. Here is a link from my website that will help you find the website for any county in NY. http://www.rootsweb.com/~nygenweb/county.htm Some counties have books that contain abstracts of wills. Kinship (publishing company) sells one for that county. It begins in 1665. You might be able to find parents in such a book. Kinship's catalog can be found at: http://www.kinshipny.com Good luck.
