Posted on: Columbia County NY. Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NY/Columbia/11809 Surname: DOTY, CADY, KNEELAND, MERVIN ------------------------- I am seeking information on the family of Simeon & Elizabeth Doty who moved to the Red Rock area of Columbia County c 1760 from Sharon, Litchfield Co., CT. The Doty-Doten Family In America records that the Doty family consisted of four sons, i.e. John, Samuel, Joseph and Simeon Jr. However, Elias Cady, son of Ebenezer Cady Sr. of Red Rock, married Keziah Doty, c 1777; and Benjamin Kneeland, another resident of Red Rock, married Bulah Doty, c 1772. Both Elias Cady & Benjamin Kneeland and their families later removed themselves to Burtonville, town of Charleston, Montgomery County, NY and appear to have been relatives as well as close neighbors. John Doty & Fanny Mervin, his wife, were also early [by 1790] residents of the town of Mohawk, Montgomery County, before apparently moving further west. Information on the Simeon Doty Family, from family records or other sources that might give some indication of whether Simeon & Elizabeth Doty were the parents of Keziah & Bulah would be appreciated. Information on John Doty, son of Simeon & Elizabeth, and members of his family would also be appreciated. I would be glad to share the information that I have collected on the Doty Family. Thank You! David Rogers, 37 Dunkirk Street, Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada.

I have tracked down my ggg-grandfather, William Starrs, born Ireland 1828, immigrated to Ghent, NY between 1849-1851. His brother, Charles, also appears in the 1855 census in Ghent. William is shown with wife, Rose, children John, born Ireland 1849, Sarah, Edward, and William, all born Ghent, NY before 1960. Question is: where would these folks have baptised their children born in Ghent? The records for St. James in Chatham (formerly St. Patrick's) do not go back far enough. Any chance they would have been baptised in the catholic church, St John, in Valatie? Anyone know if their records go back to the 1850's? Thanks for any input. ~p

Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/NY/Columbia/11796 Surname: MEAD ------------------------- I have a photo of a Mead relative (no given name) from the Sullivan Brothers Photographers probably taken in the late 1800's. The address is 425 Warren St., Hudson, NY which puts it in Columbia County. Does anyone know anything about this company? Could they possibly still be in business or sold out to another company? I'm wondering if there is any way to hunt down who this photo is of.
Hello, I am a newcomer to your list. I have been fortunate enough to learn some info at last that lets me begin my search in Columbia County, NY. I have three brothers, all "Mountain Men" who settled in Springville, Erie County, in 1810+ but were born here, in Columbia County. I am seeking parents names, sisters, and any resources you might recomend for my search. I believe this line of my family arrived as part of the 5000 Germans from the Palatinate region sent bt Queen Elizabeth to start or man a pitch factory in 1709-1710. David SHULTUS/SHELTUS/SHULTEIS b 1779, Kinderhook, Columbia Co., NY. George SHULTUS (etc) b 1785, East Campbell, Columbia County, NY. William SHULTUS b. 1788 They all seemed to be familiar with blacksmithing and metal working. While others were involved in schools and church, they were out killing bears, building woolen mills, founderies and distilleries. I have seen (can't remember where) another SHULTUS in the military rosters from Monterey, which is close to East Campbell. I am most interested in any parents or recommendations for my search. Thanks so much for anything. Candi in California
