Bob Sullivan, webmaster for the site of the Schenectady Co. Public Library today announced the posting of a book, "A History of Schenectady During the Revolution", published in 1916 by Willis T. Hanson Jr. Over 700 veterans are listed, some with a lengthy write-up. This is a noteworthy contribution to online genealogy in the Albany area. http://www.schenectadyhistory.org/resources/hanson/ Cliff
Could someone please help my family locate an obit, death notice, etc. of a Robert Sheldon, born, March 8, 1936, died, 1979. It is possible that the last name, Shilansky may be noted. It is also possible that he lived in or near Philmont, NY. Much Appreciation!
I am looking for the parents of Henry (Hendrik) Foland and his wife Elizabeth Cooper (Kuper) They had 8 children that I know of all born in Kinderhook Reformed Church from 1786-1804. My ancestor is son Jonas born 6-5-1804 and went to Wampsville, Madison County where he died in 1880. Does anyone know of these families? Any help or direction greatly appreciated. Debbie Sullivan

There is one you may be especially interested in, and that is a small book on three or four Southern Columbia County families. Art did not write this, but transcribed the notes of Peter Silvernail (Silbernagle), who had compiled the family information. The Strevers are one of the families, and they show up in the others as well. It is far from perfect, but can give you a lot of answers and leads to follow up. Good Hunting! FB, glad to find you. I am a direct decendant of Leland Strever, direct decendant of William H. There are Dings who married into the Strever family, also the name Kilmer has shown up in my search. I need to go through some paperwork and I will send you a web site where all of this information is posted. Regards
Thanks, Annette for your interesting reply. Will have to do some more digging for my Thomas LUSK and BARKERS in New Lebanon, Columbia Co.! Good luck to you as well. Suzanne
Hi, I don't have any of your names, but, the New Lebanon Presbyterian Church of which you speak may have been the log cabin church which stood next to the Mott Cemetery on Presbyterian Hill. I have posted this cemetery on the Columbia County Gen Web site. There may be more stones under sod or crumbled with age. The cemetery is in deplorable condition with stones buried in trees, toppled over and brush throughout. Maybe the present Presbyterian church has the old records from the primitive church to which my ancestor Jacob Cole belonged. Good luck in your search, Annette Campbell

I have just posted the St. George's Cemetery (Episcopal) in Schenectady, NY. The deaths were from 1788-1994. The records were orginally put into a database by Robert Vines and was sent to me by Jonathan Pearson IV. The file size was much too large because the data was in a table. I worked on it many times, but couldn't find a way to reduce the size of the file without leaving off the stone inscriptions. Kari Maunu came through for me once again. He was able to reduce the size from 747 Kb to 110 Kb. That means that the data will appear on your computer screen about a minute sooner, which was my goal. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~clifflamere/Cem/CEM-StGeorge-Schen.htm Cliff

Sara was either Gardiner or Gardenier in the records, but not Gardinier. Johannes A. Vosburgh md. Sara Gardenier at Linlithgo RDC. Her name was Gardiner (non-Dutch) in the marriage record, but it was correctly spelled as Gardenier at the baptisms of three children and a possible fourth child (from the way this last record was recorded, it is difficult to tell if she was the parent or a witness). The children were baptized at Kinderhook RDC where there were many Gardeniers. Kelly consistently interprets the name as Gardenier in his transcription. Pieter's baptism: Baptized 22 Nov 1778. Pieter, of Johannes A: Vosburg and Sara Gardenier [sic]. Wit.: Pieter A: Vosburg and Helena Gardenier [sic] Marriage license or marriage bond: 15 May 1765 John Abraham Vosburgh [sic] and Sarah Gardiner [sic]. Gardiner is a British spelling and people of that surname are unrelated. Gardenier is the original name. Gardinier is a misspelling which became popular in the 1800s, but I have not tried to determine when any family first consistently used it. At this point, I have noticed that spelling once in 1730 and twice in the 1600s. Those were isolated Gardinier spellings. Cliff

My ancestors Stephen Vallette and Freelove(Greene)Vallette moved to Kinderhook from Rhode Island after the revolution. We will be visiting Kinderhook in October. Is there any way that I can find out just where they lived in Kinderhook? If the house is still standing.? I have visited the cemetery and located the gravesites. I would also like to see the baptisimal records of the offspring that were baptised at the Kinderhook Reformed Church in 1821. Does anyone know the name of the Historian for Columbia Cy so I can write and set up an appointment with her? Thanks, Fran Winslow _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
