    1. [NYCOL] Marshall, Nantucket Island
    2. Thomas Marshall 1802-1879 b. Nantucket Island lived many years in Hudson, N.Y. most of his children were born there. He died and is buried in Greenlake Co., Wi. and some of his children are buried near him. He first married Olive Holmes Jul. 1,1808-Sept 21, 1829 one son James. She may be buried in Hudson. She may have been a quaker. He then married Phoebe Worth June 6, 1807-Feb 2, 1884. Thomas or Phoebe was a Quaker in faith. Her parents were Walter Folger Worth and Abigail Macy--b.1783 from Nantucket Island. Thomas was the son of Thomas Marshall and Lydia? or Sarah? Gardner of Nantucket Island. It seems he descended from James Marshall (from Scotland) who was married to Ruth Hawkins in Boston in 1667, a few generations down the line. He may have had at least one brother Obed. They may have been Quakers. Would appreciate any information on any of these persons.

    2. Hi Virginia, I checked all my books for Columbia County but did not find any Dungans in any of them. Dungan, 56, male, cigar maker, personal property value: 100, born Pennsylvania Martha M. Dungan, 45, female born New York Catherine, age 9, female, born New York, attending school Margaret, age 6, female born New York, attending school Jacob C., age 5, male, born New York, attending school Frances I., age 3, female born New York Juliette, age 2, female born New York Also in the 1860 Census Page 672, Hudson, Dwelling #885, Family No. 1318 Bellamira, age 15, female, domestic born New York. She was living with the family of Andrew Rifenburg, jeweler. She is probably the daughter Laumia, age 6 in the 1850 census. It seems Jacob may have been born in Pennsylvania. Hope this helps, Susan

    1. [NYCOL] Re: Harder/Harter/Herder/Herter Family Research
    2. Dear Pat: Thanks for the reply. Glad to see you are having success in your Harter quest. At some point in time, one should go ahead and publish what one has, even if incomplete. One never knows what may happen to intervene with one's plans to eventually publish. A case in point, many years ago I was researching the Lamson Family from Granby, Ct. I found out the author of the published Lamson Family Genealogy had died in Connecticut. At the Elizabeth Park Library in Hartford I found the author had willed his records to the library. Among the papers were many letters sent by Lamsons subsequent to publication, and one of them brought my line right down to my father. Eureka! Best of luck. A Harter cousin, Don Blankman.

    1. [NYCOL] Re: Harder/Harter/Herder/Herter Family Research
    2. I'm very familiar with Hank Jones' books and have seen "The Mohawk Valley Harters and Allied Families" as well, but thank you. The family of our ancestor, Johann Michael Harter, brother of Johann Niclaus, remained in Columbia Co. for the most part until after 1800. Unfortunately no one has written a similar "Hudson Valley Harders and Allied Families" (yet!). To date, we have collected over 3000 Harder/Harter individuals and have connected about 2000 of them in our files. And we're still discovering new people!

    1. [NYCOL] Re: Nancy Beckwith
    2. Sketchy information in our family tree lists Abner Beckwith from Chatham NY as having 4 children: Silas S. Beckwith, Phoebe, Benjamin, and Abner. We have a date for Silas S. Beckwith of 1800. Silas married Elizabeth Paul and had 11 children. It seems possible that Benjamin could be the person mentioned in the will. If you find out any information I would appreciate it. Thanks.
