During the time frame 1929 through 1935 a "Shufelt Family Association" was formed and conducted annual reunions with the exception of 1932 when the illness of one of its prime movers caused it to be deferred. The outcome of this Association was a book entitle "OUR FOLKS, A History of the Shufelt Family," compiled by Henry B. Shufelt. The material for the book was principally collected by The Reverend and Mrs. A. E. Clapper of Albany-Hudson who also served as Treasurer and President, respectively, of the Association. Aapparently Reverend Clapper died in the time frame August 1830 to August 1831, when he is no longer listed as Treasurer. At the fourth meeting of the Association in 1933, Henry B. Shufelt refers to him as "The late Reverend A. E. Clapper." Mrs. Clapper continued to serve as President of the Association through at least August 31, 1935, when the sixth annual reunion was held. Miss Laura Shufelt of Ghent served as the Association Secretary throughout the period and her minutes were published in the aforesaid book. I have scanned the book and I have posted these Minutes of the Association on my web page. http://home.midsouth.rr.com/groatline/shufeltreunions.htm Of interest to many of you may be the comments of Mrs. George Come, then President of the Columbia County Historical Society. In addition to discussing the Shufelt family, Mrs. Come described the nature and work of the Historical Society which was even at that early date (1934) located in the House of History in Kinderhook. Please excuse the grammatical / spelling errors -- I left them as I found them for historical purposes. I believe there is a copy of the book located at the Columbia County Historical Society. Also, I will be glad to do lookups for anyone interested. I am planning to update the Association's work, reorganize it and place it on a web page much like I did that for the Groat Family. No reflection meant on the original. That was published long before the computer age using manual collection and sorting and a manual typewriter and I consider their results amazing. Should anyone know any members of the Association yet living or the disposition of the raw data collected for the book, I would greatly appreciate a short email. Thanks in advance, Jim Groat jgroat1@midsouth.rr.com

In ca 1820 one Benjamin Houck may have been born in Columbia County. He traveled from Columbia Cnty, NY to Richford, Tioga Cnty, NY in ca 1845. I have found this name in conjunction with my McIntyre family. It is my thought that Benjamin Houck was an older, half brother to John and Matthew McIntyre. I have hit a brick wall with this line. I know they are out of Columbia Cnty and came to Richford at the same time. Matthew McI and Benjamin Houck bought land together. The land was part of the Boston Burchase. Yours aye, Donna

It seems possible that Benjamin could be the person mentioned in the will. If you find out any information I would appreciate it. Thanks." I'm behind on reading my e-mail, and just came across the above mail concerning Nancy Beckwith. My gggfather, Benjamin Beckwith of Chatham, NY, married Nancy Beamus Hudson, who was then known as "Nancy Beckwith". Benjamin was born and died in Chatham. He lived 1795-1882. Nancy lived 1782-1854. This info is from their grave stones. Benjamin's will mentions his brother "Smith Beckwith" (as I recorded it) and his son Samuel. Does this fit in with the families which the original post was discussing? If so, I have more details and would be glad to receive details. Pete Beckwith
