Most of the info I sent you came from published sources which should be cited. Most were compiled by Arthur C. M. Kelly from Kinship. Kinship has a website at www.kinshipny.com. Also, Frank J. Doherty is writing a book called "The Settlers of Beekman Patent." You can buy family chapters, he has one on the Crandall family that is 27 pages for $30.00. You can buy them from the net and he will send the chapter to you by email. The website is: http://www.beekmansettlers.com/ I have purchase a couple of chapters and was very satisfied with the information. Good luck with you paper. Susan

My GGrandfather, Samuel Babcock lived there. These famlies as I've tracked them seem to move together. The Averys, Halls, Wilcox's, Crandalls and some other families all seem to have migrated from RI and CT together to NY, across NY and then into the West. NY was wilderness when they started settling there. Laurien Babcock Fan

My gggGrandfather, Charles Babcock lived in Hillsdale, Columbia Co., NY from about 1782 to 1797. There were two other Babcock's, William and Gershom, brothers that lived in Columbia Co. I'll check my Babcock Genealogy to see if there is a Pierpont listed. There were many marriages between the Crandells and the Babcocks.

He is listed under Dutchess County Militia-Land Bounty Rights, 5th Regiment under Major Brinton Pain and signed the Association in 1775 also in Dutchess County, Beekman's Precinct. I then checked the book Dutchess County, N.Y. Tax Lists, 1718-1787 and on page 212 in the Beekman Precinct, 1738-1778 it lists: Crandall, Azariah, Ezra - June 1766-1769 Crandall, Henry - 1770-1771 Crandall, John - June 1748-June 1763 Crandall, Samuel - Feb 1754-1788 Crandall, Samuel Jr - June 1765-1788 On CD #214 Vital Records: New York Deaths 17002-1900s lists: Samuel Crandell, age 76, date of death: 1 June 1820, Town of Stanford from "Old Gravestones of Dutchess County, NY by J. Wilson Poucher and Helen Wilkinson Reynolds. And Samuel Crandel, age 18 date of detth 24 March 1840, Town of Stanford, father: Jonathan Crandell, mother: Elizabeth Crandell, same source as above. Also on CD #132 Samuel Crandell and Samuel Crandell Jr both signed the Association in the North East Precinct, Dutchess County on July 5, 1775. And on the tax list for the North East Precinct, 1746-1779 page 40: Crandall, John - June 1763-1779 Crandall, John Jr - 1767 Crandall, John Jr - 1770-1779 Crandall, John son of John - 1773-1779 Crandall, Joseph - 1775-1779 Crandall, Laban - 1770-1779 Crandall, Samuel - June 1763-1779 Crandall, Samuel Jr - 1770-1779 There seems to be two families with a Samuel either of which could have moved to Hillsdale. I hope this will help and not confuse you. Susan
