Dear fellow researchers, I have been looking for the roots of my Kinyon ancestors for the last six years. I have a copy of what looks like old Bible records that gives all the family birth records and the marriage records of the father Benoni, mother Caty Kinyon and place of birth for the nine children as New York & New Jersey. I finally found the baptisms of the first two boys at the Antheneum Library in Pittsfield, MA in a NYG&BR book of early Reformed Dutch Church NY baptisms. This is what I found: 1796 Ouders Kinders Getuygen Benoni Kinyors Cornelius Cornelius Low; Catherine Low Catherine Low b. 27 Aug. Page 478 - Baptisms 1799 Ouders Kinders Getuygen Benoni Kenyon, Jahn Van Houten John Van Houten Catharine Low b. 8 Feb.1799 Ouders = Parents Kinder = Child Getuygen = Sponsor The dates and names match what I have on copies of the old bible records. Next I found on the Olive Tree website, baptisms for Reformed Dutch Church, Totowa, Bergen, NJ: # Benone Cinen, Caty low; Maria, b 1 Jan, bp 24 Jan 1802; Wits De Vader, En Polley low Ibid, p. 126 Ouders Benone Cinyen, Caty Law; Getuygen De Vader En Moder; Naem Jeams; Geboren De 3 June; Gedoopt De 21 July 1805 (This one was found for me by Richard Van Houten) at Totowa, Bergen, NJ. Again, the information matches closely what is on the old "Bible pages". So, it looks like Kinyon is Dutch, which is what the Ellis History of Colombia, NY. has stated. I have not found the marriage of Benoni & Caty nor the next five children. I would appreciate any advise you might have. I am searching all the Reformed Dutch records I find on line. I have a 1820 Census showing Benoni Kinyon in Hillsdale, Columbia, NY. I also have land and guardianship records for Cornelius in Hudson, NY in the 1830s and 1840s. Benoni birth date is 20 Aug 1768. Caty is 13 Dec 1776. Marriage date is 5 Apr 1794. Rest of children: Betsy 22 Aug 1807, Caty 23 Jan 1813, Andrew J. 18 Sep 1815. George 8 May 1821. Ira 4 Mar 1824. I have seen the mention of various records on this list, but cannot tell how you access them from the comments made. Any ideas for further research will be very much appreciated. Sincerely, Phyllis in Oregon

Valerie, The Reformed Dutch Church of Albany is online at: http://aleph0.clarku.edu/~djoyce/gen/albany/refchurch.html As for the church records in Columbia county, Arthur C.M. Kelly has transcribed quite a few of them and the transcriptions are for sale on his website at: http://www.kinshipny.com/ Most of his work has been put on three CDs. New York Births & Baptisms; Southeast Region 1660-1916 New York Births & Baptism; Schoharie & Mohawk Valleys 1694-1906 New York Births & Baptisms; Eastern Region 1683-1928 These records are also at the LDS, local site and online. I received permission from Mr. Kelly to transcribe the baptism and marriage records for Nobletown/Hillsdale. The baptism records can be found here: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~clifflamere/Bp/BP-Noble.htm and the marriage records here: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~clifflamere/Mg/MG-Noble.htm And baptism by Rev. Viets also in Nobletown: http://www.usgennet.org/usa/ny/county/columbia/hill/baptisms_viets.htm Other vital records can be found at my website under "Vital Records" at" http://www.usgennet.org/usa/ny/county/columbia/ As for the Quaker records, Ancestry.com has them but it is a subscription service. If you post to the list who you are looking for perhaps someone on the list will do a look up for you. Go throught the hamlet of Niverville, following Main St. (such as it is) to state route 203. Take a right on 203 and the cemetery is less than a mile on the right side of the road.

Wow! That is hard to believe! Kansas actually kept better records that NY! Are any Dutch Reform church records online, or do you call/write the churches or have they been "given" to libraries up there? Is there some protocol for getting ahold of these records? I can't imagine having all these genealogists calling churches and having church workers look up records? As you can see I haven't had to obtain too many church records from that area. Thanks for any help anyone has. I wonder if anyone has access to marriage records in Columbia County in 1830. I am looking for a marriage between: PHOEBE VAN BUNSCHOTEN (or Van Benschoten - or sometimes without the VAN on the front) to JOB HAIGHT (I have found his first name as JOAB or JOBE) I am fairly sure they were married in 1830. He had been a Quaker and I believe she was Dutch Reform and I found a record on ancestry.com that appears he was kicked out of the Quaker church in July 1830 for not marrying a Quaker. A big interest of mine is the names of Phoebe's parents. I have them as JAMES VAN BUNSCHOTEN and RACHAEL VAN RENSSELAER, but I have not been able to verify this information for myself as it was sent to me by someone else without sources/references. Thanks Valerie in KS
I am looking for the parents of Lydia SUTHERLAND, born in Columbia County in 1790. She married Thomas GAN and moved to Greene County and later Delaware County and died there on Nov. 27, 1872. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Melissa Harrison
