Most of those in Columbia Co. were probably descendents of Johann Wendel Jager, a Palatine who arrived in 1710. I have found records for my ancestors with all three spellings of the name.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/VRB.2ACE/2487.2.1.1 Message Board Post: Hi, Kathleen, This is not quite what you want, which is the parentage of Geo A. and Susan, but as I wrote, my records are rather a hodgepodge, as I'd worked on other lines. But here is what I found about their children, and as you can see, even that must have mistakes in it. I think I remember her saying this was from a family Bible (but how could there be so many errors and such confusion??) An e-mail from Betty Gean Laverack 1/7/01 said seven of George A and Susan's children moved to Ontario and Yates Counties, NY. Were the first four children, Elisha, Robert, Elaine and John all born in Claverack? Sharon Skowera (a cousin of mine thru their dau Rebecca) checked the 1850 Census for Claverack, which had George A. 45, Susan 41, and the following children: George 14, Susan 12, Andrew 11, Alfred 9, Thomas 8, Elizabeth 6, James Christy 6 (how can this be since Warren Beeman gave a birthdate of 1852?) Alanson 4, William probably 2/12 (she thought she may have copied 5/12 or 3/12, but 2/12 should be correct) Thus my Rebecca at 17 would have been working out of the family, same with John, Elaine, Robert and Elisha. Perhaps Mary , b 1835 had died, and Margaret, b 1848. My Notes on the children: 1. Elisha: E-mail from Betty Gean Laverack 1/7/01 says Elisha apparently moved to Ontario County in 1850. . She thinks the other siblings followed Robert and Elisha: John, Elaine, Alfred and Alanson, all buried in Ontario County. Sharon Skowera, from Internet: 1865 Canadaigua Census has Elisha Smith, Sarah M. Smith and Imogene Smith (6 -3 -531) 2. Robert: E-mail from Betty Gean Laverack 1/7/01 says Robert also apparently moved to Ontario County in 1850. She thinks the other siblings followed Robert and Elisha: John, Elaine, Alfred and Alanson, all buried in Ontario County. Rob’t m Emily Harris 14 Jan 1858, Canandaigua, Ontario County, New York From Sharon Skowera on Internet: 1865 Canandaigua Census Robert Smith and Emily W., but not listed on same page as each other. Are they this Robert and his wife? 3.Elaine m Ambrose Bowdy Ch: Minnie, James, Charles, George John m a Catherine___, d after 1914. She d 5 Mar 1903, Hopewell Junction, Ontario, NY Ch Freeland, Lincoln, Leavitt. 4.Rebecca (my gr-grandmother) b Pine Plains 13 July 1833, (this might be wrong: from 1865 Census - she and husband did live in Pine Plains) m Cyrus Snyder, had 16 children. I have lots more abt her I can send you.. 5. Mary b 11 February 1835. Nothing further known - perhaps died young? 6.George b 17 April 1836, d 23 Aug 1923, Cheshire, Canandaigua, Ontario County, New York, m Hannah M. Van Epps, 4 children 7.Katherine b 13 June 1837 nothing known 8. Sophia b 26 October 1838 nothing known 9. Andrew b 29 February 1840, wife unknown, 4 named children, d 3 Feb 1899, Staunton, Staunton County, Virginia 10. Alfred b 20 March 1841 nothing more known 11. Susan b 12 April 1842, prob Churchtown, m George W. Baldwin, Ch Frank C. Baldwin, both b. Elmwood Cemetery, Schagticoke, Rensselaer County, New York. My mother lived with them for some time after Gram (Rebecca’s daughter) returned to Philmont. I don’t know that they had any children. Perhaps Frank d young?? 12. Timothy/Theodore??: There is something the matter with the Beeman record, unless they are twins, born June 3 1843. Betty Gean said in a letter she didn't know where Timothy came from. The name given was Theodore, b 3 June 1844. 13. Thomas ??: Beeman record says b 3 June 1844, but that must be wrong, as their records also have Elizabeth Smith, b June 19 1844, as her tombstone says. But Betty Gean says she may have been born 1846. Were Timothy and Thomas twins?? 14. Elizabeth: b 18 June 1844 9/20/00: Betty Gean says she was b 1846, but her tombstone says 1844-1934. 1850 Census says 1844. M William Van Dyke in Reform Church, Claverack, Columbia County. 1910 Census has Elizabeth Van Dycke, Head, 63, widow, Rents house. Probably her, but makes birth date 1847, so probably Betty Gean is correct, and tombstone wrong. They were childless (I think she may have married him late, from what I remember Mother saying. Both buried in Mellenville cemetery. Alanson b 17 June 1848 Are Alanson and Margaret twins?? Alanson also moved to Ontario County. 15. Margaret: b 17 June 1848 nothing further known of Margaret. 16. William b 02 June 1850 17. Cynthia b 09 August 1851 18. James Christie b October 1852 So were there 20 children? Or are some of the names mistakes? I'll try to get to the notes the Beeman's sent me on Monday. No time this weekend. I'm glad to be in contact, because maybe now I'll begin to pull these people together. It's a lot easier today with censuses on line! Cheers! Jean

He came from CT and married a local Dutch girl and had a very large family. I don't recognize your Abiathar but Nicholas is a prominant name in the Wheeler family stemming from Niklas Wheeler (b. 1728) (grandson of Evert). Have you found any other info since last August.

However, I've never been satisfied (after consulting Hank Z. Jones' books) that this attribution was exactly correct. Something was missing. It will take me a while to dig out those records, as I never entered them into my genealogy program - or maybe put them in a separate section. But give me a bit of time and I'll get back to you.
