    1. Book - Columbia County in the World War
    2. Deborah Gizzi
    3. I have a book which may be a wonderful resource for others. It's called "Columbia County in the World War" and was published in 1924 by J.B. Lyon Company, Printers, Albany, NY. The Book was authored by "The Home Defense Committee of Columbia County, New York." The book is alphabetically listed, so easy to look up names. The information was gathered by the Home Defense Committee through the use of a questionnaire which was sent out by the Committee to veterans of World War I who came from Columbia County. Among the questions asked were (although not all questions were responded to by the men): Full Name Age Birthplace Residence and current address Parents Names Condition (Married - often listing maiden name of wife, or single) Citizenship Education Occupation Military: Before the War War Record United Sates Overseas Battles, etc. Other Disability Present status General PHOTOGRAPH!!!! I'd say at least 75% of the entries DO include a photograph, although some are VERY dark and not easy to see. Anyone interested in having a look up done PLEASE use *COLUMBIA COUNTY LOOKUP* in the subject line, or else the request WILL likely be zapped by the spam filter, and I will not fish through the spam messages everyday looking for requests. I will scan the entries with photographs upon request otherwise I will type out the listing as the binding is fragile and I don't want to press it against the scanning surface more than need be. If you have any questions regarding the book, please let me know. Deborah

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/VRB.2ACE/2485.1.1 Message Board Post: Pat--I find no mention of "Reynolds Finch" specifically in the book index. However, at one point in time Soloman Finch married Mary Reynolds thus joining the Finch- Reynolds families in Columbia County. I think there is a strong chance that your Reynolds Finch might fit in somewhere. There was also a Jabish Finch living near Reynolds in the 1840 census that could have been brothers. It would be interesting to explore that possibility. Also, the Reynolds I found in Wayne CO was married to a "Phebe", not "Polly" Do you have any other names, e.g. siblings, children, etc. that m ight help narrow it down? There was also a Reynolds Finch in Galway, Saratoga CO I would be glad to help you try to narrow things down, if you would like. Feel free to email me........ Flo
