If you know someone in the Kinderhook, Chatham, Stuyvesant area that needs help with an old cemetery, please have them E-mail me. Thanks

However, this information has nothing to do with Columbia County, so I don't want to post it here.If you want this information, I will post it on the Hatch Rootsweb Board, just let me know. I am doing my research from Canada and not yet come up with a map of the earlier versions of Columbia County. I understand the Sagers may have lived at one point in Hillsdale, not far from the MA border, making Shay's rebellion a possibility for their move. Apparently they also lived in Ghent, Claverack, and Churchtown, closer to the Hudson R. I have found Adam Sager's name on a list of 'Claimants for Losses in the Province of Quebec' , but have seen no other indication that they would have been Loyalists.

I believe they moved from Dutchess County to Columbia County (Claverack) in the early 1770's. I am wondering if they were Loyalists, and if their move to Canada would have been prompted by the Revolutionary War. Does anyone know how I can check this out?

I hadn't heard that it had been located. I do have a couple of issues with the book. Elisha Hatch (#68) is listed as having three grandsons named Samuel Hatch, the sons of Samuel (291), Elisha (292), and Matthew (295). I believe there is good evidence only for the Samuel who was the son of Matthew. The story of Samuel who was son of Samuel (291) comes from a book entitled "The Annals of Oxford, New York", which connects him with a fanciful and anachronistic tale of pirates. The Samuel who was the son of Elisha (292) is listed with a birth date of 4 May 1761 in Oxford NY. Oxford didn't exist then and there were few, if any, Europeans in the area. However, John Hatch, son of Samuel (291) WAS born on 4 May 1761 and later settled in Oxford. I haven't found any indication of any other Hatch family there. John Hatch was my ancestor.

Correct. That first rendition is in both the Ohio Historical Society Library in Columbus and the Historical Society Library in Athens where Judge Hatch lived and served as State Senator. The original Journal later returned to Washington and Athens Counties in Ohio where is was published privately by a major paper manufacturer. Copies of that published rendition are also in OG&HS Library in Columbus and in Athens at both the Ohio University library and the OGS library. Presently the original Journal is in Massachusetts in a private collection. Peter Hill researched the Hatch family carefully up through the fifth Doty generation. Judge Hatch's eldest sister Comfort Hatch married Hosea Crippen. The Judge and Comfort were fifth gen Doty family members and sixth gen Francis Eaton family members. I have since found a fresh new Hatch cemeterty in Washington County New York bu! t there seems to be little impact on Hill's five generation conclusions.

Bill McGrath TIGS Project Coordinator Clifton Park, NY NEWS ITEM: RENSS. CO. CLERK PARTNERS WITH TROY IRISH GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY A partnership between Rensselaer County Clerk Frank J. Merola and members of the Troy Irish Genealogy Society (TIGS) has resulted in the automation of over 5,000 marriage records in Rensselaer County beginning in 1908. When complete, over 30,000 Rensselaer County marriages between 1908 and 1935 will be automated and available for searching through the Genealogy society's website. "I am very pleased to be involved in this partnership with a great organization that is willing to take the time and effort necessary to open our historical records through the use of the internet which will allow those interested to search these records from their home or office rather than in taking a trip into Troy to examine these books," Mr. Merola said, "I am very grateful to TIGS president Donna Vaughn, project coordinator Bill McGrath, webmaster/librarian Jeanne Keefe, and the rest of the members of the Troy Irish Genealogy Society who contributed the time and effort necessary to complete this large project. TIGS volunteers from around the US worked to convert the original marriage index records to digital files which made them accessible through the Internet." Anyone interested in viewing the first index of marriage records is encouraged to go to the Troy Irish Genealogy Society website at www.rootsweb.com/~nytigs/ and click on 'TIGS PROJECTS and then Rensselaer County Marriage Index, Vol. 1. These records cover the general area population and are not restricted to Irish surnames. The website also provides a printable form that can be used to request copies of the Affidavit for License to Marry, the Certificate and Record of Marriage and in the case of minors, the Certificate of Consent from the Rensselaer County Clerk's office. The Rensselaer County Clerk's office charges a $5.00 fee for retrieval services of these marriage records. The marriage forms provided by the County Clerk's Office, Mr. Merola stated, will be of great interest to family researchers. Some items of interest on the forms, Merola indicated, are the ages, addresses, occupations and place of birth of the bride and groom as well as the names and place of both of the parents. Mr. Merola anticipates a continuation of this project until the ten volume Marriage Index has been completed and foresees future collaboration with the Troy Irish Genealogy Society that will benefit Rensselaer County residents and historians alike. "Preservation of our records has always been a priority of mine because our heritage is irreplaceable. We have made tremendous progress in restoring County naturalization records and with the help of organizations such as the Irish Genealogy Society we will not only be able to preserve our records but develop a format where people can utilize modern methods to search their histories. I am thrilled to partner with this great organization and I am thrilled about the future of genealogy in Rensselaer County. END OF NEWS ITEM

    3. Diane and David (Hi, Cuz!): If you find where those cemetery records are, would you please post that info to the list? I too have some problems I'd like to clear up - like where is one of my grandmother's daughters? I'd had a letter in 2000 from Shirley Mullins (can't find her letter right now, but I have my reply, and had entered notes into FTM. Shirley Mullins gave me Nellie's death date Nellie d. Oct 5, 1893 at 8 months, 13 days, Register #773. So she must have died in Philmont, then, and probably been buried there, though the family lived in NYC from 1887 until 1904. But Gram's parents and several siblings and aunts lived in and near Philmont. Thus I'm guessing that Nellie must have been buried in Mellenville Cemetery., though there may be no stone. The previous child, who died in 1892 was buried in Maple Grove Cemetery on Long Island (I also have his grave ticket) When I inquired of Maple Grove if Nellie was buried there, they wrote that they had no record for a Nellie Armstrong with that death date. Sigh. Cheers! Jean
