Seeking information on my HAUVER family. James Henry HAUVER (b. Ashland, 18 June 1854; d. Catskill, 04 April 1922) married Caroline Ann Frost. James was the son of William Hauver (b. 09 April 1827; d. 1871) and Catharine Almira Manzer (b. 21 March 1821; d. 04 March 1895) William and Catharine are buried in West Settlement Cemetery. All of their children are born in Ashland. Other children of Catharine and William were: David Eugene, Mary Helen, Daniel and Anna Belle. James' death certificate shows his Father William being born in Columbia County. Anna Belle's death certificate shows her Father William born in Dutchess County. I have not been able to find him in Columbia County so now I will try Dutchess County. Anyone out there have anything on this family ? Thanks in advance, Jane

This cemetery is at the intersection of the Harlemville Road, which runs south from County Route 21, and Ten Broeck Road. It is on the south side of Ten Broeck and is gated but closed. Does anyone know if there are transcriptions of the stones in this cemetery?

I am seeking information about the births and deaths of these Chapels and a marriage between MATHEW SMITH CHAPEL and a CATHERINE, who according to her tombstone was married to MATTHEW. She was born 1790, died 1853, and is buried in Prospect Cemetery, Valatie. Identity of maiden name and parents sought. MATHEW SMITH CHAPEL was born in Sandisfield, Berkshire County, Mass., the son of RICHARD CRIGNON CHAPEL and SARAH SMITH. RICHARD died in 1825. SARAH may have died in 1828 in Columbia County and may be buried in a little cemetery next to the river in Stuyvesant. The 1860 and 1865 census returns show MATHEW in the poorhouse in Ghent. 1840 and 1850 census returns for Kinderhook show two daughters MARY and AGNES, but I have found nothing further concerning them. MATHEW was not listed in the 1850 return--just CATHERINE and the two girls. Any information regarding this family would be greatly appreciated. Mathew was my 3G grandfather. Barbara L. de Mare, Esq. I do not have much if any on the Mead line. I come through Philters. I have Thomas T. Whitman born 1801 in Columbia (we believe) who is my ancestor. Thomas was listed as a shoemaker in the 1850 and 1860 census. We believe Thomas’s father was Samuel Whitman. Samuel is listed in 1810 Census in Chatham, Columbia, New York. There is a Samuel Sr. in 1800 census and a Samuel, Jr. In 1810 There is Samuel Whitman and Widow Whitman again in Chatham, New York. (So the Sr. must have died). In 1820 Samuel is again listed in Chat ham, Columbia, New York. In 1830 Samuel is again listed in Chat ham, Columbia, New York. He is not listed in 1840 and so I believe he died in that time period. Thomas married Eliza Ann Mead (Meed) also born 1803. Thomas and Eliza’s children: Philetus born 12 July 1827 Maria L. Whitman born 1840 Henrietta born 1842 Phebe Elizabeth born 1840/1846 Samuel Frederick Whitman born 1848 I find Thomas in Manhattan City Directory in 1829-1830 as shoemaker primary address 43 Forsyth and again in 1839-40 as shoemaker with address 317 Houston In 1830 Thomas is in Chatham, Columbia, New York In 1840 I find Thomas in Springfield, Otsego, New York By 1850 Thomas is listed in Ward 17th Ward in New York City. In 1860 they are in McLean County, Illinois where the children (Philetus, Maria, etc.) get married. In 1870 he and Eliza are listed together by 1880, Eliza moves in with her daughter.

You can't really blame the author for not including families if no one has found the records. My main problem with the book is the opposite, some people are included with little or no documentation. e.g. Samuel (#291) and Elisha (#292) each have a son named Samuel listed, the evidence for each is scant. The only source for Samuel, the son of Samuel, that I know of is a book called "The Annals of Oxford New York". It includes a dubious and anachronistic tale of pirates. The only source noted for Samuel, son of Elisha, is "PEDS Files". That Samuel is listed as being born 4 May 1761 in Oxford NY, before the town existed and when few Europeans lived in the area. He seems to have been confused with John (#1053), son of Samuel (#291), who WAS born 4 May 1761 and later moved to Oxford NY. John is my ancestor, I haven't found any record of other Hatch families in Oxford in that time period.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/VRB.2ACE/1926.2.1 Message Board Post: Thank you Susan for your help with this info although I'm not exactly sure that this is of any benefit to me---it being "too early" to being able to tie it in with any Hatch's I'm working on that went to Washington Co from Columbia Co--in particular, Hillsdale. Trying to revert connection of Columbia Co Hatchs that removed to Washington Co---at least through the Mayflower books via Edward Doty---is almost impossible, as those Hatchs that went to Washington Co WERE NOT TRACED, NOR BARELY OR EVEN AT ALL MENTIONED. No one wants to admit that the Hillsdale Hatchs, Crippens, Rowleys, as well as others, even removed to Washington Co---before most removed to points beyond where everyone wants to pick them up: ie: Judge Elijah Hatch removing to Ohio AFTER a stop in Washington Co. Jim Crippen's comments about some family info "making little impact" upon the observations from the Mayflower Edward Doty coverage would certainly have NO IMPACT if certain factions of the line were NOT followed if no one knew, or researched that they did, in fact, remove to Washington Co.. Yes, Doty's did in fact remove to Washington Co, as well, as they purchased or mortgaged, if even for a short time, land in Whitehall and Granville--yet can find little, if any, information about these particular Doty's. Anyway, just felt I had to get this posted; perhaps you can't answer any of this; however, it might open up something for someone else looking for an opening to researching some of these connected families NOT researched in the Mayflower book. Anyone is free to contact me, directly, if they can shed any light on any of the mentioned names from Columbia Co that went to Washington Co, then points beyond.
I am trying to find a marriage record between Emily Barton and ?? Page, married on Feb 24, 1833 in Columbia Co, NY- . Emily was a member of the Quaker church, in fact in the Quaker Chatham-Hudson MM meeting, she is disallowed. Emily was asked to leave the Quaker Church because she married out of her faith. I don't know if this marriage was performed exactly on this date, but the date should be close. Emily was Disallowed on April 25, 1833. I would like to find out the Groom's first Name plus, anything else about this pair of newlyweds. Can anyone help? Ed Page
