Ira E. Goodness was killed by a train on 29 Aug 1920. He was an RR employee, or a Pinkerton. There should be a news-story and an obit on him and the way he was killed. He was buried in Cedar Park, Hudson, NY. I haven't been able to find the story. Can someone look up the story/obit and let me know where to look/how to look. I want copies. Thanks Sandi

Russell of Comanche, Texas, appeared in the Boston Transcript over 50 years ago re the Holmes -- Russell relationship in New York. This letter, or article, was written in response to the lineage given for Chloe Caroline Holmes and reproduced somewhat in notes for Rufus Holmes. The article follows: HOLMES I noticed in the paper of May 13 an article on the Holmes family. I am not directly interested in the family only remotely collaterally. But the location of this Holmes family together with the given name of Russell for one of the children are quite suggestive of identity. Daniel Russell (Jonathan, Sergeant, John, Philip, John of Cambridge, Wethersfield and Hadley), fourth child of his father, married Anna Jones. They probably lived in Wethersfield [MA] until after the Revolution, as all of the children appear to have been born there except Johnathan, the youngest of eleven who was born as I now recall in Canaan, NY. Daniel finally settled in Bloomfield, Ontario county and died there. His children as recorded in Wethersfield were Anna, Hannah, Chloe, Martha, Sylva, Mehitable, Sally, Daniel (1), Daniel (2), Abigail and Jonathan. Hannah and the first Daniel died young; the second Daniel married Mary Wilson and died leaving no issue so far as I have been able to learn. His brother, the only son of Daniel senior surviving, Jonathan, married her sister Nancy Wilson. . . . Chloe, the third child of Daniel and Anna Jones, married Palmer Holmes. As she was born June 15, 1763, she probably married about 1780 to 1785. The given name of Russell leads to the suspicion that Palmer Holmes may have been the father of Rufus. . . [In the rest of the article, Mr. Russell traces his Russell ancestry. He does give Daniel Russell's mother's name: Mehitable Wolcott. ] . . . His children went West, per bible records. From a September 1930 letter from the acting commissioner handling military archives to Mrs. Glenn B. Adams: Dear Madam: You are hereby advised that it appears from the papers in the Revolutionary War pension claim, S. 13443, that Rozel or Roswell Holmes was born in 1764 in Little Nine Partners, New York. He enlisted in New Britain, Columbia County, New York, in June, 1781, and served as a private in Captains Peter Van Renesselaer's, Skinner's and Welp's companies, Colonel Marimus Willett's New York regiment. He was in the battles of Johnstown and West Canada Creek. In November, 1782, he was taken prisoner by the Indians, while out on a scouting party near Sackett's Harbor, and was detained a prisoner in Canada at least three months, when made his escape and came back to camp at Ft. Herkimer, and was discharged in December, 1783. He was allowed pension on his application executed October 2, 1832, at which time he was living in Solon, Courtland County, New York. He died February 20, 1854. There are no data as to family. This letter, or article, was written in response to the lineage given for Chloe Caroline Holmes and reproduced somewhat in notes for Rufus Holmes. The article follows: HOLMES I noticed in the paper of May 13 an article on the Holmes family. I am not directly interested in the family only remotely collaterally. But the location of this Holmes family together with the given name of Russell for one of the children are quite suggestive of identity. Daniel Russell (Jonathan, Sergeant, John, Philip, John of Cambridge, Wethersfield and Hadley), fourth child of his father, married Anna Jones. They probably lived in Wethersfield [MA] until after the Revolution, as all of the children appear to have been born there except Johnathan, the youngest of eleven who was born as I now recall in Canaan, NY. Daniel finally settled in Bloomfield, Ontario county and died there. His children as recorded in Wethersfield were Anna, Hannah, Chloe, Martha, Sylva, Mehitable, Sally, Daniel (1), Daniel (2), Abigail and Jonathan. Hannah and the first Daniel died young; the second Daniel married Mary Wilson and died leaving no issue so far as I have been able to learn. His brother, the only son of Daniel senior surviving, Jonathan, married her sister Nancy Wilson. . . . Chloe, the third child of Daniel and Anna Jones, married Palmer Holmes. As she was born June 15, 1763, she probably married about 1780 to 1785. The given name of Russell leads to the suspicion that Palmer Holmes may have been the father of Rufus. . .
