Surnames: Nash, Pierson Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.columbia/4727.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I'm afraid I don't have any answers for you, just more questions. I've been curious about Dennison Nash's connection to the Pierson family of Hillsdale, NY for some time. In 1860 the Dennison Nash household of Binghamton, NY included Sarah Pierson, age 53. This seems to be the same Sarah included as Sara A. Pearson (sic), age 43, on the Hillsdale census of 1850 in the household of her brother David G. Pearson (sic), b. 1827. In the 1840 census, Dennison Nash and Sarah's father, David Pierson (b. 1785)were listed next to eachother on the Hillsdale census, perhaps indicating that they were neighbors. I had concluded that Sarah Pierson had moved to Broome Co. to live with her former nieghbors (the Nash's) by 1860 after the death of her own father. Now I wonder if perhaps Sarah Pierson was Laura E. Nash's sister. Perhaps Sarah moved to Binghamton in the 1850s to care for her nieces and nephews after the death of Laura. David Pierson's Hillsdale household lists a daughter around Laura's age in the 1820 and 1830 census. This is of course all speculation, but might be an interesting lead to follow up if you're interested in Laura's background. I also noticed that Dennison's daughters are named Sarah and Charlotte. If Laura was indeed a Pierson, perhaps she named her daughters after her sister (Sarah) and mother (Charlotte Pierson, nee Francis, originally of Pittsfield, MA). Best of luck, sorry I couldn't be of more help.

J. A. SCARBORO, who pastored First Baptist in Magnolia in the early 1900s. A few years ago someone sent me a photocopy with a bit of info on him. I am trying to determine if this came from "History of Columbia County, Arkansas" by Killgore or some other book. The copy is page 88 and 89. The heading on top of the page is "History of Columbia County". The headings within the text on these two pages include "The Protestant Recorder", "Columbia Record", "Buckner", "McNeil", etc. The fourth paragraph on p. 89 is about Rev. J. A. Scarboro. Can anyone tell me if this is from "History of Columbia County, Arkansas" by Nettie Hicks Killgore? If it is, could you also give the the publisher's info: where published, by whom, and date? I want to give credit to the proper source. Thanks so much. Have a nice day. Sincerely, Robert Vaughn

A. J. Johnson b 1851 Laura Johnson b 1864 ============ A sketch, titled JOHNSON FAMILY states it like this: " William Johnson, one of two sons of Silas P. Johnson and Elizabeth (Kuntz) Johnson, was born March 19, 1838, in Columbia County, New York. When quite young, he was brought by his parents to the state of Ohio. This journey that would take only a short time under modern conditions, was at that time a very slow and tiresome experience. They went from their home to Buffalo, New York, by canal, and from there to Cleveland by steamer where they took the Ohio Canal to Chillicothe, and from there to near Hillsboro, Ohio, by wagon. Most of his life and that of his brother, Philip Henry, was spent in Fayette County. " - - - - - - The 1850 census states that all children were born in New York so this journey to Ohio took place between 1847 and 1850. So they were not among the earliest settlers of Fayette County. Their daughter, Emeline Johnson would marry one of the early settlers. Abner Todhunter Jr.. age 15 with his parents and sibling did settle the area in 1805. It appears Silas moved from 1850 Union twp to 1860 Jasper twp and then to 1870 Perry twp. Perhaps like Perry township this township also had boarder lines changed and though they did not move their "address" changed. Or they could have indeed moved. Walnut Creek : This area in 1805 was part of Fairfield Twp, Highland Co., OH. In 1810, Jan 19th (took effect March 1, 1810) this area became Greene Twp, Fayette Co, OH. Later, June 4th, 1845 this area became Perry Twp, Fayette Co, OH. Email me at [email protected]

    1. [NYCOLUMB] Children of Amos and Hopestill King of New Lebanon Springs
    2. Folks, is anyone on this list working on or interested in the children of Amos and Hope (Haskins) King? Amos is a Revolutionary War Veteran on the side of the Colonies. He served out of New Salem, Hampshire County (now FFolks rankling County). He married on 10 April 1781. Their oldest child a son is Nahum Amos King born 25 July 1783 in New Salem. In about 1785 another son William O. King was born. In that year the King family packed up and left New Salem. I don't know where they went exactly. Letters and the census say that he went to Hastings on the south shore of Lake Erie in Oswego County New York. The New York census for 1800 lists a King family in the area of Canaan and I think that this meant he was actually on his farm in or near New Lebanon Springs which formed in about 1810. Hope Haskins is named as Hopestill King in her fatghers will proved 1798 in Massachusetts giving her and a sister full use of a farm on an island. This is why we don't know where or when they left New England. Amos was planning to travel with his family by canoe to Michigan for the free land he would have claimed as a veteran. Hope said no way and Amos aquensed to her wishes and marked his Donation Land Claim there at Hastings. How long or when is unknown. The family has 10 children I know the names of several from land records, deeds, and Amos's will but not the ages. If any of you are working on this family I can tell you that I am not interested in what the ancestry file and the IGI has on this family it is all screwed up showing children born even before Amos married Hope. One look at anyone's research and I can tell whether to continue or send it directly to file 13. Some of the children are Nahum Amos, William O., Betsey, Hiram, Horace, and Luther. Only Luther stayed in Columbia County after his father died on 9 July 1839. I paid the surogate court of Columbia County to have the land records and the will documented in December 2006. Thanks Daniel 4th great grandson of Amos and Hope King through my paternal grandmother.
