"The military history of the town is quite brief. During the war of 1812 the town contained but a few settlers. Of these Apollos AUSTIN, John and Simeon WOOD, Isaac MARSH, Ezekiel DOUGLASS, Garduer GOODSPEED, and others took part in the war. In the support of the national government in the war of 1861-65 the town was prompt and earnest.
