Does anyone know if it was common in the 1800's for residents of Clinton Co. to migrate across the lake to Grand Isle Co., Vermont, and back? Were there families that had relatives living in both counties on a frequent basis? Debra

Numerous families (Roberts and Martin are the ones I know about) had both Grand Isle and Plattsburgh relatives at various times, and in the winter one could cross on the ice. Travel to and from Cumberland Head and Burlington was also common. The journal of David Kellogg, MD, a physician practicing in Plattsburgh between the 1880s and 1910, includes some examples of such travel. I think he attended medical school in Burlington, and at least one of his sons attended UVM. (A charming book, edited by Allan Everest and published in 1970 by the Stephen Greene Press of Brattleboro, VT. I lucked into a $5 used book price, but I doubt you could do that well now.)
