Judy, My g.g.grandfather was James JOHNSTON, but the 't' was often dropped in census records and other records...becoming JOHNSON. He and his wife, Elizabeth (surname unknown) lived in Mooers and Champlain from at least 1844 until he moved to MN in 1871 or so. Elizabeth died in Mooers in 1859. James Johnston / Johnson was born in Ireland. I know nothing of his family other than that fact. Any connection to the JOHNSON family you're researching? Happy holidays.
