    3. >From the book: The Souvenir Industrial Edition of Plattsburgh 1897 edited and published by W. Lansing & Son, Plattsburgh page 32 JEWISH SYNAGOGUE. September 1st, 1861, a society was incorporated in this village under the name of "Jewish Congregation of Plattsburgh." Wm. Cain was president; Levi Gold, vice-president; A. Peyser, secretary; Solomon Monash, treasurer; Carser Peck and Seleg Levi, trustees. Regular services were first held by Rabbi Jacob Ehrich, in September, 1862, who was succeeded by Rabbi S. Bernheim, in May, 1867. He remained but a year, when Rabbi Jacob L. Meyer assumed the charge. Since that time the following have officiated in that capacity, viz.: S. Stern, S. Bergman, A. Goldstein, and the present incumbent is Mr. Julius Hess. April 4, 1866, the lot and building of the Universalist Church on Oak Street, was purchased by the society, where they have since worshipped. The present officers are: President, Isaac Merkel; Secretary and Treasurer, Marcus Miller; Trustees, J. Mendelssohn, Wm. Levy, and M. Schneeberg. Services are held every Friday night at seven o'clock, and Saturday morning at 10 o'clock. ----- Mark Aubrey [email protected]
