    1. Re: [NYCLINTO-L] Vital Records Books for Clinton County
    2. Apparently the kinds of published records were not done in Clinton County (as they were in Massachusetts). One of the problems is that town clerks are not consistently cooperative. I've phoned several town or village clerks and someone has actually gotten books from the vault and read the information to me. (In one case I'd written, but had no response. The clerk did not have a photocopy mahine so read the stuff to me while she was having lunch. She read a bit, I wrote while she had a few bites.) A great Plattsbrugh friend who has been of enormous help in my research took flowers, candy and dug out a driveway to get on the good side of one town clerk. Finally, one afternoon she allowed him to go through death volumes which in some cases listed the deceased parents. (Or the names that the surviviors had given as parents.) In many cases, town clerks find genealogy projects to be terribly time-consuming, and are on a low priority as compared to parking meters and stop lights. Linda
