I don't know if this is relevant or not. Many of members of my family have an "Indian" look, and traditionally we are told there was Indian blood in the Gregory family. Haven't been able to get past Zar Gregory who settled in Saranac in the early 1800s, married Sally Hopper about 1811. I think Sally was the daughter of Lambert Hopper who was an early settler of Plattsburg/Saranac. There is a similarity between Hopper and Harper, depending on how one pronounces it. (Lambert's line is Dutch and goes back to Orange/Rockland counties, but we don't know anything about his first wife Abbey except her date of death and age at the time.) Most of the Hopper line appears to disappear from Clinton Co by the 1830s when at least 3 of Lambert's sons were in western NY/PA and IL.
