Good morning! I am new to this list and was hoping I could take advantage of all the knowledge about Clinton County that must abound here. I am looking for my proverbial needle in a haystack. This is my brickwall: My great grandfather's (Felix STEBBINS) death certifcate listed his parents as Joseph STEBBINS and Marie LAVALLE both born in Champlain. My grandfather's date of birth is 1879 in Chicopee, MA. That would make his parents born in the late 1850s to mid 1860s (my assumption). I called the Champlain town clerk and was informed that NY state did not mandate recording of births till 1881. He did look through the parish records he had, but no STEBBINS. I also do not know if these people married in NY or not. Ok list, any ideas on how I would proceed? This is my first search attempt in New York. Do these names appear in anybody else's research? I contacted the Stebbins Ancestral Society and of the 60,000 names they have, none fit the name and time frame I need. HELP! Regards, Cheryl
