Notes for RENE DENOYON: When Rene, the eldest child, was about ten years old he was sent with some Frenchmen and Indians to visit his grandparents in Deerfield, and when the Canadians were ready to go back the child could not be found. Perhaps grandfather Stebbins induced him to stay, but stay he did and in New England he founded not only a family but a name, for his name changed from Rene de Noyon to Aaron Denio. He was a soldier in the Three Year's War. In 1730 the General Court granted him two hundred acres "in consideration of his losses and sufferings in the War with the Indians and French and in his captivity among them." He, a child born in his father's own land could hardly be called a captive!
