Lyon Mountain is in Clinton County and may be within the Town of Dannemora, as it is not far to the west of it. In it's heyday, it was an iron mining town, complete with company housing, store and gas station. If you are in the area, you can easily see the remnants of what was once called "ore sand", still in piles that once dotted the landscape, on a much larger scale, a half century ago. The State of New York has built a correction facility in the town in recent years, the mines closing up nearly forty years ago.
