    3. FYI; The term "upstate" in New York State terminology usually means the area North of New York City. Having been born and raised in the area of Clinton and Franklin Counties, we always used the term "Northern New York" and, I think, today, they use Northern as well.The area phone book is entitled "North Country". If you have a person who settled in "Upstate New York", I wouldn't put much hope in finding them in this area.
