I finally find the christening records of one of my most difficult brick walls, Margurite Harpin. Thanks to the effort of some kind person who had put the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Dannemora, NY online. This is what I found: 11 B 11 1861 Harpin Margurite 14 Avril 1861 27 Mars Dernier Harpin Gilbert Fontain Olive Giroux Antoine St. Geroges Margurite C.F.M. Saliaz This is how I interpret what I found: Name: Margurite Harpin Christened April 14, 1861 Born March 27, 1861 Father Gilbert Harpin Mother Olive Fontain Godfather Antoine Giroux Godmother Margurite St. Geroges Priest C.F.M. Saliaz Could someone please tell me what "Dernier" is just before the name of her father. Also does anyone know anything about this family. From the 1920 Census I learned Olive Fontain was born in New York and Gilbert Harpin was born in Canada. The birth date for Margurite Harpin is correct as I have a copy of her death certificate from 1947 in Pittsfield, Ma. she married Olsemine Beaudin and the family relocated to Pittsfield and became James & Margaret Borden. Any information or suggestions on how to go further back would be greatly appreciate, this is the first time I have actually seen the name Harpin as her death certificate shows Harper. Joanne Borden

Hi, Did you get my name from Addie Shields? I have only gotten back to Octavii Provost Sr who married Celina Vincent. They are buried in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Dannemora. There were 9 or 10 Provost's that came to the new world and 9 of the went into Canada, the other one came into New Engand. My line is from Martin Provost nee 1611. Type in Claude Provost genealogy into Lukol.com search engine. When you find his page, go to Martin and open the file. You might have to use Microsoft Word to open it. My great grandfather, Marshall Milo Lasell married Addie Amelia Bond, the daughter of Seth Bond and Ruth Shaw. Seth (or father Seth?) had other children with previous wives, too, so there are many Bonds from Clinton County that I'm trying to become acquainted with-- with little luck. I am still trying to find the ancestry of John "Moses" Allard who was born abt. 1805 and married a Charlotte Tucker. They were living on a farm in Mooers Forks New York by 1850 which was located on Cannon Corners Road. I have run across another Moses Allard in the 1810 Federal Census in Sharon Vermont. Looking at Spooner's Vermont Journal http://www.dartmouth.edu/~lmfwelch/html/look1811.html I find the following: "Allard, Moses (Sharon). Notice is hereby given, that Whereas, Lydia, my wife, has refused to live with me, as the principles of virtue require, and has not accepted of the provision made for her support; and likewise has refused my care and protection. These are therefore to forbid all persons harboring or trusting her on my account, as I will pay no debt of her contracting after this date. - Moses Allard, Sharon, 31 march, 1812." In the book, Vermont Warnings Out Vol. 1 Northern Vermont, by Alden M. Robbins I find that Lydia Allard and family are warned out of Strafford, Orange County Vermont on Jan. 10th 1815. Strafford is next to Sharon Vermont which is in Windsor County. I stopped in the Sharon Vermont Town Clerk's office in July while I was on vacation. The only records I could find on Moses were in the land records. He bought his first lot of land in Sharon on Sept. 9th, 1800 from JAMES ALLARD. This record states Moses was from BARNSTEAD N.H. On Sept. 12, 1804 Moses ALLARD sold land to HENRY ALLARD. July 3, 1807 Henry ALLARD sold land to Moses ALLARD. August 14th, 1810 Moses ALLARD sold land to JONATHAN ALLARD. Moses also sold land to John Leekins, William Hunter, Joel Marsh, and Amplius Blake from 1801 to1810. There was a LEMUEL ALLARD elected as surveyor of Highways in Sharon for a number of years. On November 4, 1826 there was a sale of land to PIERRE LEFILRE (?) in Quebec by Lydia EVANS , widow of the late Moses ALLARD; JOSEPH ALLARD & MOSES ALLARD farmers of the Seigniory of Beauharnois. Pierre is a farmer of the parish of Le Prarie of Madeliene. The two lots of land are situated on the BLACK RIVER. Moses and Joseph must be her sons. Therefore, I am looking for the ancestry of MOSES ALLARD and his wife LYDIA EVANS. He was from Barnstead N.H. I did find a Henry ALLARD married to a LYDIA EVANS April 21, 1787 in New Durham N.H. which is located near Barnstead N.H. This could be my man if he has a middle name Moses!! Does anyone on the list have access to the 1860 census and would be willing to lookup a brick wall for me? I have the old FTM 1860 cd and cannot find my people, thought maybe someone else would have something more current or the real thing. Looking for Charles LAMKINS/LAMBKINS/Lamken (or other variant spellings) and wife Eliza. They would be around 25 years of age. I find them in 1870 in Saranac. I find her in 1850 Saranac as Eliza Snell with David Snell and rest of the family. I believe Charles and Eliza married about 1857 and had a daughter Eliza the next year. They SHOULD be in the 1860 but I can't find them and it is making me crazy. Thanks for any help or direction. Marina

Does anyone have the French-Canadian line of MINOR - MINER - MANOR which was from the Beekmantown / Plattsburgh, Clinton County, NY area? Would love to connect and break through this brick wall of mine! Thanks!

I had a wonderful trip to Plattsburgh and I want to thank the list for all their help on who to contact on my visit. We stayed at the Baymont Inn in Plattsburgh and spent a day and a half at the Clinton County Office Building. I had an appointment with the Clinton County Historian, Addie Shields, and she was a great help. Her office did not have anything on file on my Allard family. However, in her office was an 1856 map with my M. Allorde and D. Lover on it. A city official came into the office and helped us to locate the road that the Allard farm was on. It was located on what is now Connors Corner Road, Route 10, in Mooers Forks. We searched the grantee, grantor and mortgage books in the County Clerk's Office and did not find my John "Moses" Allard. We then went to the Probate Records and found nothing on him there. I did photo copy the will of Ebenezer Wheeler and some probate records on Emeline Lover. Addie had us go to the Real Property Office and point at todays map of Mooers Forks and request the Book and page number of the existing owner where the Allard farm would have been located. We then went back to the Deed office and worked backwards tracing back the deeds to try to locate a land record on Moses Allard. We never found one. A gentleman who has worked in the deed office for 30 years attempted to help us and he could not find a land deed for Moses either. The present day deeds of both owners on Connors Corner Road do say that their land bounded on that of Allard and his name is mentioned in one of them. We stopped in Ellenburgh and the town clerk did not have records on Allards or Wheelers. We located where the farm should have been on Connors Corners Road and found corn fields. The farm was a mile from the existing Canadian Customs. Perhaps it was in Canada and when the international border was changed, it then sat in the U.S. The Mooers Forks Methodist Church and cemetery were a long drive from there. Covey Hills in Canada was much closer. We spoke with the new minister for the Methodist church and went through their records in Mooers. No Allards are mentioned. Moses Allard and his wife are probably buried in Canada, as even the Mooers town clerk has no records on them. The Mooers Library had nothing and we missed the Mooers Historian so never got to see her archives. We attempted to find newspaper clippings in the Plattsburg papers and found nothing. I don't know where to look now, other than Canada and small cemeteries on the border. Leatrice
