is there any way to buy this book that anyone knows of. I would really like to purchase it.
I understand that the Northern NY American Canadian Genealogical Society has published a Baptism, Marriage and Burial Records for Immaculate Conception Church in Keesevile and St. Catherine Sienna mission in Clintonville. Does anyone have access to this book to look up the following names (all variations of the same name): Lachance, Luck and Lock. I would like information on any of these names but specifically I am looking for Samuel or Edward/Samuel/Anselme/Edson (name changed depending on record). Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated. If anyone else is researching this family I would like to hear from you. I have just found out that Edson Luck served in the 118th Infantry company I from Mooers Forks in the Civil War and just received his pension records, though parents are not listed. I am trying to make definite connection to him and Samuel Luck and Sale Lussier. Thanks, Phil
Hi Karen, See in the entry for Ann Lizy that godparents were Albert Defayette and Mary Hebert. There is one Desfayette birth, Napoleon, in St-John the Baptist where this same couple are godparents again. Then in marriages they are listed as parents and it shows in brackets they were from Peru, NY, have you checked that town. Have you considered that Nathaniel and Louise might have married in Quebec then moved to NY? Might look under Carpentier/Charpentier. Regards, Andree
Parish, St. John the Baptist, Keeseville, New York, baptisms and burials, 1853-1880 Does any have access to this source? I am hoping to find information on a marriage or death of a Nathan(iel) Carpenter and his wife Eliza Defayette. They had a daughter born in 1862 that is register in the Assumption of Mary, but I have yet to find anything on any source for their marriage or census records or anything. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Karen
Hello Listers: I am hoping to connect with someone that is familiar with the family of Russell L. Carpenter b. about 1802 in CT and wife Saloma or Maloma b. about 1814 n NY. I located him in Colton, St. Lawrence Co., in 1880 at the age of 78. I can not find him in 1870, because I do not have access to an index for NY for 1870. I do not think he was in St. Lawrence in 1870. In 1860 I find him in Clinton Co. (Peru) b.abt. 1807 with wife Saloma age 47 and children Nathan (21), Electa (13), Saloma (9) and Caroline(6). I am particularly interested in Nathan. I believe he married Eliza Defayette/Defiette and had a child Ann Lizy Carpenter in Clinton in 1862. I can not locate anything on Nathan and family at all!! Not in 1870 or 1880. I certainly need some help on this one and would appreciate any assistance someone is willing to give! I've been working on this for about 2 years. Karen
Thanks to everyone who has responded to my plea for help. After studying many GenForum messages and census records all day again, I believe that the Eliza Defiat shown on the 1860 Peru census shown with James Keone and Sophrona is Sophrona's sister, both daughters of Albert Defayette and Marie Hebert. I know she married Nathan Carpenter about 1861-1862 because their daughter's birth is in the Assumption of Mary of Redford. It is shown as Ann Lizzy Carpenter b. 8/22/1862. Problem is I can't find their marriage, nor can I locate them in 1870. I think they may have moved to Michigan by 1870 because I located a Nathan and Eliza there, but with no children. Karen
I want to thank those who responded to my "SOS" on Nathan Carpenter and Eliza Defiette. I have been working all day trying to piece some information together and have some guesses. Perhaps I can get some feedback . . . . I located a Nathan H. Carpenter b. abt 1838 to a Russell L. Carpenter b. 1807 in CT and Saloma Carpenter b. about 1812 in NY on the Blackbrook, Clinton Co., NY 1850 census. I am guessing this is the Nathan that married Eliza (Louisa) Defiette/Defayette. I have not been able to locate their marriage record. I found this Russell and Saloma with Nathan in 1860 in Peru, Clinton Co., NY. Couldn't locate him in 1870. In 1880 I found him in St. Lawrence Co., (Colton), NY. Now, finding Eliza was more difficult. Not sure I did find her. She is supposedly the daughter of Albert Defiette and Marie Hebert. I believe I locate her with Albert and Mary in 1850 in Peru, Clinton Co., at age 5. In 1860 I found an Eliza Defiat age 16 in Peru, Clinton Co. I can not find Nathan and Eliza's marriage record. They had a daughter (Ann Lizzie Carpenter in 1862) in Clinton Co. This Ann Eliza married Fred Parsons about 1880. Can't find their marriage record either. Can't find Nathan and wife in 1870. I found an Eliza Carpenter in Watertown, Jefferson Co., NY b. 1862 as a housekeeper in 1880. Also found a Nathan H. Carpenter b. 1803, in Monroe Co., MI in 1880 with wife Louisa b. 1845. Could this be him? And did daughter Eliza stay behind instead of moving? Would appreciate any and all help I can get on this line! Karen
Karen I have the 1870 census for Clinton Co but cannot find any of them included there. Hi again, One more note. Doing a search on the genforum Clinton County site, I came across a message which stated that Mary Hebert and Albert Defayette were married to each other, so I would suspect that they were the maternal grandparents of Anna Eliza Carpenter. Hi, I found Ann Eliza Carpenters birth information from Assumption of Mary of Redford, but didn't find Nathan on the census: Ann Lizzy Carpenter, born 8/22/62 baptized 1/4/63 Father: Nathanael Carpenter Mother: Louise Defayette Sponsors: Albert Defayette and Mary Hebert Quite often, one or more of the sponsors are parents of the couple. There were some other Carpenters in the 1870 census for Clinton County, but no Nathan. You can check these other Carpenters out at http://www.angelfire.com/ny5/clinton/ There is an 1870 census index on that site that gives the pages of the census that you can check out. During that time, St. Joseph's had a Monsignor - Landry, I think his name was. He was quite old when he died there in the early 1950s. Shortly before he died, so the story went, either the other priest or the housekeeper found him burning what he said were "Just some old papers". The "old papers" turned out to be marriage and baptismal and other assorted church records. How many were destroyed before he was discovered, is unknown, but anyone looking for records from St. Joseph's should be aware of this. R.L. McKinney

Hi, I am the one who transcribed these, and yes you have interpreted correctly. This was the 11th baptism for the year 1861, and recorded on page 11. I have photocopied some of these records. If you would like me to send you a copy, just let me know your email. Ann Messier
