    3. I believe you are referring to Dannemora prison? It was there at least since the 1930's. My mother had a cousin or uncle who worked there. My great great grandfather lived in Lyon Mountain but I had thought it was closer to Franklin County. I didn't know it was close to Dannemora. Pat ----- Original Message ----- From: "R. L. 3. Lyon Mountain is in Clinton County and may be within the Town of Dannemora, as it is not far to the west of it. In it's heyday, it was an iron mining town, complete with company housing, store and gas station. If you are in the area, you can easily see the remnants of what was once called "ore sand", still in piles that once dotted the landscape, on a much larger scale, a half century ago. The State of New York has built a correction facility in the town in recent years, the mines closing up nearly forty years ago. 3. Hi First, thanks for the two replies to my post on "Lyon Mountain." I'm glad it still exists! To McKinney: No, sorry, not related to any of those families. Can my helpers, or anyone else, tell me what county Lyon Mountain is in? Clinton or Franklin? Also, to what township (town) I would mail a request to get vital records for Lyon Mountain? Lyon Mountain is not listed as a separate township on any website I've checked. So, it must be part of a township like Saranac? Or, which one? Thanks for continuing help. 1. Re: [NYCLINTO] Clay and Rand families
    2. I believe that area called Rand Hill is east of Dannemora, not near Beekmantown. Many years ago I lived on a road referred to as the Rand Hill Road. As you leave Dannemora, heading towards Plattsburg, there is a Y in the road - the smaller road to the left is the Rand Hill Road. He might have been a son of Erastus. I would be glad to hear from any Vail from around Champlain. Harriet

    1. [NYCLINTO] Gero(Giroux)/ Allen families
    2. Hi everyone. I was hoping someone might beable to steer me in the right direction in info regarding marriages in Clinton Co between 1901 and 1905. I am looking for a marriage between Mary Gero and John Allen. Mary, born 1881, was the daughter of Joseph Gero(1855, son of Gilbert) and could be found on the 1900 census In the Saranac area. Mary gave birth to her first child Lena Allen in 1905. Mary Gero(Allen) is a widow with 3 of her four daughters( Florence, May, Madeline) on the 1920 census, living with her father, Joseph, again in Saranac(Dannemora area). I have no info on John Allen except he would have died between 1911 and 1920. He also worked as a prison guard at an institution in Dannemora. Its alittle too hard looking for a name like John Allen without atleast a birth year. i would guesstimate between 1880 and 1883 I was hoping to find a marriage date and maybe a possible age for John Allen mentioned. My only other hope is the 1910 census for John Allen and Mary, with children. I would say they lived in Clinton Co, as it seems Mary is always mentioned there.Im new to research in NY. I have spent many years searching in the southern states. I was wondering if someone might be able to tell me abit about the info available for Clinton, Franklin, Essex Counties. What years were death and marriage certificates available for these counties? Please email me anytime. Thanks so much, Ronnie in Florida
