Mac, Any guess on what county? Jackie
Hello, Can anyone tell me what county Purdys, NY is in? Also, any suggestions on tracking down girls basketball information from 1935? Thanks, Jackie
The other person was correct, it's in Westchester County, about 60 miles due east of Hartford, Connecticut. It's east of the Hudson River and not too far from the Sleepy Hollow area. Looks like Purdys, NY is about 60 miles, more or less, north of Yonkers. If you are looking for High School girl's basketball, your best bet would be old yearbooks from that school. If the school is still there, they may have them or perhaps the town library. Bridget, last summer I was in the area and found Pat and Mary Nash Gregory's graves in St. James Cemetery in Cadyville. Pat's father, Platt, was buried there too, but no sign of Pat's mother. She is a real mystery. Thanks for looking. There is a web site for the Village of Champlain and it is www.vchamplain.com. The address etc is there. Good luck.
Does anyone have a mailing address for the Village of Champlain town hall? Would appreciate it. Bob

Would you believe that there is a Patrick listed under Gregory followed only by .......then Ellenburg as the parish. No other name or date after his name. Proves someone found his name in the records but probably could not make out the original document. Others listed under surname Gregory are William, Ann and Ellen who married a Sullivan, also in Ellenburg. I just came across an old thread about Clinton Co marriage look-ups, and it looks like Andree has or had books with marriage entries. Is there an entry for Patrick Gregory and Mary Nash? I am doubting there is anything as I have already corresponded with the priest at St. James in Cadyville, where three children of Pat and Mary were baptized. I'm giving this another shot because I just received Pat's Civil War pension file, and I now have a marriage date. Pat said he and Mary Nash were married Aug 17 (looks like 18 was written, then 7 over the 8) 1868 "in the town of Plattsburgh in the parish of Cadyville by Rev. Father Malory. It doesn't say St. James, but I don't think there was another Catholic church in Cadyville. It would be great if the books have an entry, and even better if the entry gives the maiden name of Pat's mother (and I want to win the lottery tomorrow night too) Thanks. Happy New Year Everyone, I recently wrote to the City Clerk's Office, P.O. Box 3144, Champlain, NY 12919. They did not have the record I needed and told me the records could be in the Village of Champlain Records. I went to Cindy's List and searched for an address. I could only find the address I used above. Does anyone have another address for the village. I did not know there were two different places. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Sharon

The Clinton County Historical Society used to sell reprints of individual towns and villages from the DeBeers Atlas. I was lucky enough to find a complete Atlas--which is a wonderfully useful tool. They are out there--also a well-done reproduction book--and are not hideously expensive.

Does anyone have information about Nehemiah Merritt, who was on the 1820 Federal census of Chazy? According to the History of the Town of Chazy,he had the first mill in town. Who were his parents or children? Thank you for any help. Harriet
Hello veterans and newbies of the RootsWeb. I have received permission from the listowner to make this offer. There are some really great folks who are willing to help just for the asking. I, myself do Volunteer research at Andersonville Civil War Prison in Andersonville Georgia. Any research I do is absolutely at NO cost and I am willing to do what I can. There are more than 41718 prisoners on record from the Union, ( 6680 from Pennsylvania )and quite a few who were held prisoner here as Union regiments from Confederate states. There are also nearly 13000 ( 2261 New York ) marked graves of those who died here. I thought I would send my offer as these would lead to a great many descendants who might be looking for them.. I feel the need to say I am not in anyway trying to focus on the horrors of Andersonville compared to any POW camp in the north ..( i.e.Elmira ) or any others and do not wish to stir up arguments on this site. My focus is dedicated to ALL of those held prisoner during this war , on both sides as well as all Americans who gave their freedoms for those that we enjoy today.. I just happen to be near Andersonville so this is where I do my work Here are my sources of research. There are 2 online databases to do lookups.....One by name...one by Company and Regiment. I also have a copy of the Dorence Atwater Death list which has the names and grave numbers of 12960 graves with only 460 marked as " UNKNOWN " This along with a CD I have which contains 41718 names of the 45,000 who were imprisoned there which helps me find prisoner records because of misspellings of the names or alternate names. I also have the continued update database which is dated October 01 2002 . . I visit the prison site every couple of weeks and have access to the onsite databases as well as the physical files. Please do not consider this spam as my research offer is FREE for the asking . Please email me directly at Frye@gnat.net If there is anything I can do in helping your research at Andersonville, please just ask. I am wondering if there is anyone who lives near St. Edmund's Cemetery and would be able to get over to get cemetery photos for me of my ancestors that are buried there. I do not have the address of the cemetery either. Paul Napoleon LANGEVIN b: April 14, 1870 in Jericho, NY died Oct. 15 1942. He is buried at St. Edmund RC Cemetery, Ellenburg Corners, NY. I believe his wife's name is inscripted on the stone too. Her name is Augusta Ann (Patenaude) b: Sept. 10, 1872, Ormstown, QC; d: April 14, 1960 in St. Mary's, Elk County, Pennsylvania. I believe she is buried down there in a convent cemetery where her daughters who are nuns lived. Thanks for your help. Sincerely, Shannon Courtney Albu. NM
