Hi Hubert, I have nothing in the Vital Records book. Your dates are too old. This book covers only 177-1834. In the History of Clinton County, there is no mention at all of a Howlett HAYS/HAYES/HAY. I did the Hayes family a week or two ago for the Clinton County list so you may want to check the Archives and see if there may be other family members that you can fill in. Hi Joanne, I checked my books and in 10,000 Vital Records 1777-1834, there is no mention of your BALLARD surname at all. In the History of Clinton, there is only mention of a Rollo BALLARD as being the Chief Engineer for the Chateaugay Ore Company. Sorry I could not be more helpful. Hi Colleen, I find it so hard to believe but, I could not find anything listed under any of your spellings of LICKLEY in either book, 10,000 Vital Records or History of Clinton. The closest I could come up with was the surname LUCKEY; and then no John. I would think that if he was arrested, there would have been a newspaper article. I even checked my NH documents, just to be on the safe side, and there was no mention of that surname. Sorry I could not be of any help this time around. Hi Joyce, I cannot help you with any information today. The dates you gave are too old for the Vital Records book. That book only covers 1777 - 1834 (deaths and marriages only). You may want to try, if you have not been there yet, the Clinton County webpage. They have the McLellan Cemetery Index that if your surname is listed, you can send off and get for a very small fee, the cemetery and person's name and what the headstone looks like etc. I have used it and I have found it very helpful. It will also tell you what is inscribed on the stone. The webpage is: www.rootsweb.com/~nyclinto/ . The Beekmantown Civil War roster is also there plus a lot of other goodies. Hi Dianne, Would you believe, I could find names that matched your SMITH'S and LOCKWOOD'S, but the time-frames were all wrong. Nothing seemed to match up in either book. I sure an sorry about that. If Betsy was Betsey and the mother instead of the daughter, I would have an entry. This Betsey was married when your Betsy was being born. Hi Joe, I do not have any books on VT at this time (sure wish I did). I can check what books I do have and see if, for some reason, there were in that state for some reason. 10,000 Vital Records does mention a Hyde Park frequently as being a place of residence but they usually do not say whether they mean NY or VT. Just have to go by the names involved and what the event was. At the end of each entry is the name of the Newspaper that had the article and the date of publication. Most of these papers are not in business now but may be on microfilm. I do not know. Hi John, I was lucky and went on E-bay at just the right time. I just typed in the word "genealogy" for the search area and there is usually over 900 books, cd's, magazines, etc. for sale. I purchased 5 different books. You may also want to check out the usual on-line stores, Amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com, and Higginsonbooks.com to name a few. The last is a publishing co. that works only in genealogy including area histories, not just surnames. Hi Deb, In "The History of Clinton and Franklin Counties, NY" page 259, I found the following: "The following list doubtless contains the names of most of the adult male inhabitants who resided in the town between the years 1788 and 1800 inclusive. These names are taken from the town records, with the year prefixed when they are first mentioned" 1798 Eza SQUIERS Same book, page 164 under the heading of THE METHODIST EPISCOPAL speaking about religious meetings (classes) in Champlain. In the book, 10,000 Vital Records of Eastern NY-1777 - 1834, we find the following: SQUIERS, Lemuel (Dr.) m 9/13/20 Mary TUCKER in Cooperstown; Rev. TIFFANY. Hi John, In the History of Clinton, etc. I show 11 Bertrand names but no Constant and I do not know where Churubusco, NY is. I looked in both Clinton and NY and did not see that town name. In the same book for the BOYER surname, I only show an entry for an Antoine. Now for the 10,000 Vital Records, This is the information I had on both Surnames: No entries under the surname BERTRAND or BOYER. I am real sorry we struck out. The only given names I have are: Alexander, George E., John B., John B. Jr., Julia A., J. Napoleon, M. H.
