    1. [NYCLINTO-L] Ordering from the McLellan Cemetery Index
    2. Susan Jones
    3. Hi List, My brain power does not seem to be working very well this evening. I would like to know which is the correct price for ordering cemetery inscriptions. The index says: "Include $1.50 for the search fee and $.25 for each page request and a SASE." I am looking for the Surname Roberts. Under PL for Plattsburg, I find 6 different cemeteries. Since I do not know which cemeteries my ancestors were buried in, I want all 6. Would that be $1.50 and $.25 for each cemetery in Plattsburgh for Roberts for a total of $10.50 or just $1.50 for the search and then $.25 per cemetery for a total of $3.00. It makes a big difference and I want to get it correct. Like I said brain power is a little low this evening. When I ordered for my Duff family, it was only 1 page so I called the Plattsburgh Library and they just sent me that one page, no charge. Will not do that for 6 different cemeteries. Thanks for your help and unconfusing this ol' lady. :-D Sue [email protected]

    3. Hi Linda, I know what you are saying. I only think that there are records because both the baby and my great grandfather were buried in the West Plattsburgh Union Cemetery in Morrisonville. Since that is not a private cemetery, I would think there would be a document. There was one on my great grandfather and he died about 6 months after the baby. I am going to have to write and get the cemetery entries for all the Roberts though as they are a little further back in time and harder to get any documents on and I don't know which churches they attended. Just that they were Protestant. That leaves a wide open door. It seems they usually attended whatever church was the closest to home. They had no real preference of one denomination over another from what I have found so far. Thank-you for your suggestions and you have a Happy New Year and I hope all your brick walls fall by the wayside this coming year. 3. I sent for a marriage certificate to Albany, and they sent a reply back, that if I went thru them that, it would take six months for the reply. That it would faster to go thru the Town Clerks Office. I think you can find it there because, we got one for my brother at the Town Clerks and he was born dead. I called to see how much the document would cost because the price changes. Also my niece sent for document in Chazy, that they could not find and they sent her check back. It all took about a couple of weeks from the Town Clerk. Hope this helps,Elaine

    3. Hi Mary, Unfortunately, the family bible was lost in a house fire. According to my grgrandmother, the child did live long enough to cry but on the grave marker, there is no name, just Baby Duff. Some stories say it was a girl and others a boy. If we are to believe my grgrandmother and all her stories, the child would have been born July, 1894. I have been able to get my grandfather's birth record from Beekmantown town clerk and he was born in 1892. She supposedly had one child each year, 1892, 93, and 94. and they was one month difference also. Since I have 1892 and 93 accounted for and the months of May and June, it would make sense that the child was born in July. She said that her oldest was born in the first month of the line. That is why I have not chosen April for the month. I also have their marriage certificate. The marriage took place in July, 1891 so that rules that year out also. My great grandfather had just come to this country from Dublin, Ireland so I doubt if they "had" to get married for this first child. :-) I will write to the town clerk at Beekmantown and hope they have the record. If not, it leaves me with Morrisonville, and Plattsburgh. Oh, the father of the baby died in Dec. 1895 so again it takes me to 1894 for a birth date of the baby. 3. Hi Elaine, I went to the vital records website and went to the Clinton County section looking for the addresses for the town clerks and they did not have anything listed. Are we supposed to write to the county clerk in Plattsburgh only? If not, do you happen to know the address of the town clerk of Morrisonville or where I could find their address? Other states list both county and town clerks but NY does not seem to do that. Thanks for your help. 1. [NYCLINTO-L] Birth and death certs. for "Un-named" child
    2. Susan Jones
    3. Hi list, Does anyone know if you can get a birth/death document from NY if the child died soon after birth? I have found, through the cemetery listings that my grgrandmother had a child that apparently either was born stillborn or died shortly after birth as it was not given a name. The marker on the grave next to my great grandfather is just marked "Baby Duff". I know that month and the approximate year of birth/death as my great grandmother always made a remark about how she had three children born certain months in her first marriage and 3 children born the same 3 months in her second marriage. Since I have the first two months of the birth for the first 2 children, reason would tell me what the month was for this baby. The birth was either in 1894 or 95 as my great grandfather died in 1895. The first child was born in 1892 and the second child was born in June of 1893. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated. I do not "need" this document but I would like to add it to the family history collection of documents. Sue [email protected]

    2. The list has not been published. Don't we wish... The McClellans left their library, including manuscripts to the Feinberg Libary. Consequently that's where the original loose-leaf notebooks of the Clinton County cemetery survey are housed. There are complete copies (including, I believe, the few cemeteries done in Franklin and Essex Counties and north of Champlain, New York in Quebec) at the Plattsburgh Public Library, in the County Historian's Office, and at the Clinton County Historical Society. The New York American-Canadian Genealogical Society very recently got a complete copy. Town historians have copies of the parts that relate to their town or village. The original pages of the Vermont cemeteries are in St. Albans, Vernont. Apparently only the Clinton County sections have been indexed. Someone recently pointed out that not all the cemeteries in Clinton County were covered. Just a couple of years ago a cemetery was dsicvoered in Schuyler Falls which was probably unknown to the McClellans. I believe a copy of the list is now at Feinberg. Linda

    2. Sue, As far as I know the indexes were placed at SUNY PLattsburgh's Fienberg Library for New York State and the Historical Society in St. Albans VT for cemeteries for Vermont. Never heard of them being available in book form. They are in notebooks and folks have merely been xeroxing them. I know the Clinton Co. Historian's Office has a copy for NYS. Phil Gauthier

    3. Hi Andree, I was just trying to be lazy by buying the transcripts and saving all that time in writing and waiting. I have so many Roberts family up in Clinton County. I used Plattsburgh Public Library by calling them and they sent the information on my Duff family. They did not charge me anything. I just didn't want to do that for my Roberts, as I said there are just too many of them spread out over Clinton County and I hate to wait. :-D Sue [email protected] -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Tuesday, December 28, 1999 7:25 PM Subject: Re: [NYCLINTO-L] McLellan Cemetery Inscriptions >Hi, >This is available on the NY Clinton County page: >http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyclinto/ > >Click on McLellan cemetery index - there is a full explanation on how to find >ancestors names and how to order transcripts by mail - very inexpensive and >usually back in the mail within a week. 3. Hi Linda, It has been a little while since we have spoken. I just get sooo tired of having to wait on mail and as my time with the DAR draws closer and closer, I was hoping I could find the actual inscriptions and not just an index as on the Clinton Co. web page. Since I am will to buy a book, it was not a matter of buy the information from the Library. I did that for my Duff family and came up with a real surprise. Another member of the family, a baby, which I did not know even had been born. It must have died right after birth as it did not have a name on the stone, only "Baby Duff". I guess with that kind of info, there is no way to get a death certificate from Clinton County or Albany, since it happen in the late 1890's with that kind of name; even though the parents' names are know and where they lived. I would be looking at a long list as I need all the Roberts from Clinton County and I think there were 5 or 6 cemeteries. Well, anyway, you have a nice evening and will talk with you again. Maybe after the first of the year, when Social Security gives me that big pay raise, I will write and ask for all those cemetery listings. Have a good one and have a Great New Year. Hope all your brick walls fall by the wayside. 3. Hi List, Does anyone know where you can buy the McLellan Cemetery Inscriptions for Clinton County? It would save a lot of time etc. to have the book(s), especially as one's family grows and expands. I have checked the normal on-line sites, e.g. amazon, Barnes and nobles, Higginson books with no success. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Also, is it available on CD rom? That would be even better for me. Sue [email protected]
