There is a copy of the 1978 reprint of Hurd's History of Clinton and Franklin Counties currently on eBay. 246745024 Was at $30.00 yesterday. Believe I paid $45.00 several years ago when I bought a copy from the Clinton County Historical Society and I believe I got one of the last copies they had. The reprint has an indexes for each county which I don't believe is in the 1880s version, so is wonderfully helpful. It's a lot more fun to have your own copy than to grind through microfilm in a dark library. If you watch eBay for genealogical materials, the other book to watch for is a copy of Beers Atlas of Clinton County. There are maps of every town and village in the County, with names of landowners of 1869. The reprints (which are printed on heavier paper than the original edition) may be as scarce because there were only 300 done. In any case, I found a copy several years ago at the wonderful book and print store in Lake Placid. That might be a good place to call if you are looking for one. (I paid $75.00 about four years ago.) Linda

Subject: Fwd: Help keep Iowa records open. In a message dated 1/25/00 3:35:01 PM, Pmauer writes: The State of Iowa is considering closing their records to the public. This has already been done in the State of Illinois where you have to rely on someone in the courthouse to look things up for you for a fee of $2.00 and if you want a copy, that is $8.00 more. Many of the people from the East went to Iowa and you may need to obtain some of their records, if not now, in the future. Even if you are not an Iowa resident, please be part of the numbers to be heard about how important it is to have these available. Send an email to [email protected] and [email protected] Please forward this message to: 1) as many people you know who reside in Iowa 2) as many genealogical societies as you know 3) as many other organizations whose voices might make a difference 4) everyone you know who are involved in genealogy and history research
Hi Joyce, Try for the maritime provinces, either Nova Scotia or New Brunswick. Sorry I don't maps handy for that area but have seen the name Sauvage associated with these two provinces. Regards, Andree
I am transcribing a page from the Surrogate Court of Clinton Co. NY., 1817. In it, it states that Thomas Le Sauvage a native of the Island of G.....nsey Canada. Looks like it could be Guinsey. Does any one know what the name of this place could be and where in Canada is it? Joyce
Thank you , Pat. I'll work on it. Much appreciated! Jan
You might want to try the Clinton county site and look at the McCellen List for cemeteries. :o) Pat -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Monday, January 31, 2000 8:23 AM Subject: [NYCLINTO-L] Davidson, Jennings >Good morning listers, I am looking for a list of possible cemeteries in >the Saranac, Clinton Co., N.Y. area. Hi, Jan, Try the Clinton Co. Genweb page. They have the McLellan Cemetery Index on the site, and that has a cross reference to all the cemeteries they did. It includes most of the cemeteries in the county - not the large Catholic ones in Plattsburgh (except the old RC cemetery), but is pretty comprehensive for the rest. Saranac is pretty small and only has a couple cemeteries listed. If you find a name in the index, the library in Plattsburgh has the full index and will check it for you. Just thought that what you found could have been Elizabeths Vere's mother Elizabeth Dione. What is the record and what date? Wow thanks!! Margo
Hello and thank you, Elizabeth Vere was my great- grandmother and she would have been born around 1856 and she was married to William Rolland in 1881 in Keene, N.H. in 1881. Her death record says she was born in NY State Her father was William Vere and her Mother was Elizabeth also. I think she has a sister Cecelia and a brother William. I think there were other siblings going by her childrens birth record at St. Joseph church in Dannemora, but am not sure their relationship. Is Keeseville near to Dannemora? I am looking for her with her parents around 1870. She would have been around 14. Margo
Good morning listers, I am looking for a list of possible cemeteries in the Saranac, Clinton Co., N.Y. area. Any one know where I might search? Jan
Hi Margo, I have an Elisabeth Dion (Guyon, Young) in the mid 1800s around Keeseville, NY. do you have any other names or dates? Andree
There's a Federal census for 1870.. When did the mid-decade New York State censuses begin? I can never remember. If one was done for Clinton County, the copy is missing--all the early ones were lost. Some of the later are on microfilm. You can order them through inter-library loan, or order them from Salt Lake through the local LDS family history room. Linda
Could anyone tell me if there is a State census for the towns of Clinton County for 1870. I am looking for the parents of my Great- grandmother, William Vere and Elizabeth Dione. I believe Elizabeth was born in the Dannemora area around and Willam was born in Canada. Any help would be apprieciated. Margo
Hi List, I guess there are enough new people on line now to put in an "old" request for documents on the birth marriage and death of Susan Isabel HARRIS, daughter of James HARRIS and Sarah E. McIntryre. Susan was born in the Beekmantown area of Clinton County on Mar. 27, 1862. She was married to Edwin F. CRAIG on March 6, 1880. I do not have his vitals or the names of his parents. I would also like to know when they died and where they were buried. There was a marker in the Shelters Cemetery in Beekmantown on the backside of Susan's parents marker that had her information for birth but nothing, when the McLellan Cemetery Index was made as to their death. If you can provide documents on these 2 people, please contact me at my e-mail and we will discuss payment and snail mail address. Thank-you all in advance for your help. Sue [email protected]
Hi List, I am looking for the parents of Amanda BAKER. According to the McLellan Cemetery List for Clinton County, NY, she was born Oct. 25, 1800 and died Nov. 15, 1876. I believe she was born in the Manchester, Vermont area but cannot prove it at this time. She was first married to Nathaniel McIntryre who died July 25, 1833 "in his 57th year". She then married Enos N. Harris of Clinton County, New York and is buried in Shelters Cemetery, Beekmantown, Clinton, NY. He died, Oct. 30, 1866, AE 78 Years. Enos was also married to Lydia Finch who is also buried at Shelters Cemetery. She died Sept. 30, 1835, AE 44 Years. All the above information taken from the McLellan Cemetery Index for Clinton County, NY. Have been search for Amanda's parents for a very long time and have not found anything and getting documents for that age from NY in next to impossible. Any help in finding who her parents were and where they were from would be greatly appreciated. Thank-you for your time. I have had other researchers give me information as to the marriage but nothing on the parents. Sue [email protected]
Hi Bettie, I put that site in my favorite folder to be able to return to it and assimilate all the information. andree
