I believe its necessary when an individual dies in one state and is buried in another. I know when my father died in 1998, we had one to move his cremated remains from Florida to buriel in Mass. Hi Liz, Sorry this was taken from church records in Clinton County and it does not even give parents, only witnesses. There are others under Emeri: Modeste Emeri, Napoleon Emeri/Emery, Melina Emery, they are listed as parents and godparents for births in 1870's. If they are like any of the other french canadians that went to Clinton County I would look in the Chambly, Boucherville, L'Acadie, St-Jean areas of Quebec. Regards, Andree
Thank you Andree Did it mention at all where in Canada their families were from? Liz
Hi Liz, Saw you inquiry and found: Emilie EMERY married Pierre BOISSY on May 26, 1876 St-Pierre Church, Plattsburgh witnesses were Jean-Baptiste Asselin and Francois-Xavier Boissy. Regards, Andree

Hi, Can someone please tell me under what circumstances a Burial Transit Permit is necessary? Thanks. Alice in Arizona

This is one time sweep through the affected counties. Delete if you already seen this on other NY lists. SAMPUBCO moved to new address and it's a new home all it's own. new home: http://www.sampubco.com You will need to bookmark this site because the search engines (altavista, dogpile, snap, etc) will not update their directories for 4 to 8 weeks or longer. There are mailing lists through ROOTS for the various surnames, just as there for geographic areas like this one--Clinton County. You might sign up for the lists, either using the digest format so that you will not be inundated with mail, or sign up, post and note explaining what you have and ask folks to contact you directly. Then unsubscribe from the list. A couple of years ago I found a some photographs amazingly were all well-labeled. There were two or three names so I signed up for those lists and eventually was given the phone number of someone directly descended from two of the names, and related to the others. She was utterly thrilled and still sends flowers to me on her great grandparents' anniversary. Linda Dewey San Francisco
Hello, I am new to the list. I am looking for any information on my great grandfather and grandmother. Marlin Vaughn was born in 1802 and Amarylla Mann was born in 1804.They would have been married around 1823, where unknown. I first found them in Ostwegat Twp., St. Lawrence County, New York in the 1830 census. I later found them in Ellisburg Twp., Jefferson County, New York in the 1840 census. My grandfather bought land in Allen County, Ft. Wayne, Indiana from Robert and Mary Ellis of Jefferson County, New York. They moved to the Ft. Wayne, Indiana area around 1843. The family has been there ever since. Many times the ( L ) in Marlin has been crossed to make it Martin. Also Amarylla's name has been spelled many different ways. The last name has been spelled Vaughn and Vaughan. I have been looking for them for the past 22 years, but can't find anything previous to the New York 1830 census. They had eight children. If anybody can please help me or give me any suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Jim Vaughn ([email protected] )
Recently a friend told me that she had a box of Civil War letters, pictures, etc. that was in their house when they bought it many years ago. She brought me some of the things that she had and I thought I would let the list know about them, as they apparently deal with someone in New York State, possibly around Binghamton(?) There is one photo taken by a photographer in Binghamton. There are several photographs of men, there is a card, that could be an appointment card. It says,"University of the State of New York, ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY, by Wright-P__-MD For Mr. Edw C. Cooper. There are some letters, (don't know if she has the envelopes) to a Mrs. Cushman and they are signed Cliff. There is also an order to report for someone to report to the Post Hospital Columbus, Kentucky signed by N or W. R. Denby Surg in Chief, 6" Div. 16th Army Corps, dated Dec 15, 1863. Name at the bottom is H. C. Cooper, Asst. Surg, 178 N.Y. Vol. There is also a very loving letter to his wife (girlfriend) and her name could be Bonnie. Also a receipt dated November 16, 1863 from a Capt. John Collier to a Dr. Cooper, signed William S. Marks, Clerk. Can anyone connect to any of these names? These were found in Evergreen, Colorado. I will be going through the box in the next week or two and will post anything else I find of interest. Could someone suggest other places (lists, websites, etc.) where I might post this information to reach the maximum amount of interested parties? Thanks marykell
Looking for information on Frank Bussee born in Canada about 1820 moved to Plattsburgh, NY Also Francis Emory born in Canada 1816 and their families. I am descendant of son Peter Bussee and daughter Amelia Emory. Liz
Hello, I'm new to this list. I'm wondering if anyone is searching the LAMBERTON family of the Mooers/Mooers Forks area. I'm trying to find the parents of, and any information on, ELIZABETH LAMBERTON b. ca 1812 in Mooers/Mooers Forks. She married JOHN DERBY(b. ca 1817-1821 in Arthurs Corners) in ca. 1838 in Keeseville or Clintonville. They lived in Mooers until about 1850, when they moved to Black Brook. I am gettiing info on John and Elizabeth's descendents. I have hit a brick wall trying to find Elizabeth's parents. Checking census records for age appropriate Lambertons, she may have been a sister of GEORGE AND JAMES LAMBERTON The only possibility I can come up with so far is that her parents were WILLIAM LAMBERTON(died in Ireland) and ELIZABETH his wife. Elizabeth(the mother) may have lived with George until her death between 1840 and 1850. This is all speculation upon trying to fit pieces together. If anyone is searching LAMBERTONS, please let me know. I'd also appreciate advice as to searching the Mooers area. I visited Clinton/Franklin/Essex Co. in 1998, but had too little time to go up to Mooers. Did do some work at SUNY, but mostly worked on Derbys. Thank you Laura Callier
Sounds like one of the many Canal Schooner companies that operated on Lake Champlain. I had an ancestor who owned and operated his own Canel/Schooner on Lake Champlain. The library at SUNY(Feinberg) had several books on different Lake Champlain companies you might try there. Also with the advent of Railroads many of these companies became part of different Railroads, and were operated as subdivisions of Railway Companies.Search the online areas under Lake Champlain,Canals,Transportation,Railways, in NY state I think you might find info there. Also the Stae of Vermont has a ongoing archaeological project on my ancestors Canal/Schooner which now resides the bottom of Burlington,Vt. harbor. ----- Original Message ----- From: Harriet May Chase <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, February 11, 2000 1:23 AM Subject: [NYCLINTO-L] WHERE/WHAT IS/WAS CHAMPLIAN TRASPORTATION CO > Hi > In my ever go-around in search of my ggrandfather, Ezra Bowers Chase, > who according to MA archives Death Log, indicate who might be him, born > in Burke, NY, with father, George. > > No data to be found on Ezra. Hi, Harriet, If the name was an early version of the company that still runs the ferries on the lake - Lake Champlain Transportation Company", they are now located in Burlington and have a website www.ferries.com Hope this helps. -- Candy_B [email protected] Researching Bennett, Cooper, Vanderveer, Woolley & related families in NJ Researching O'Brien, Brown, Boyle, Cavanaugh, Noonan, Fitzgerald, Spellman, Messier (Macey), LaCroix (Cross), Blais (Blair), Durand, Simonneau, Chabbot (Jabbot, Jabaut), Boucher, Sharron and related families in NY, New England and Quebec
Hi Andree, Oh Gosh! Yes! Please look for me! I am aware of the Deerfield capture. But I cannot get back any farther than my grandfather (Felix Stebbins)who (supposedly) was born in Chicopee, Massachusetts in 1879. His death certificate says he was born in Chicopee, MA and his parents were from Champlain, but his marriage records states he was born in Springfield, MA. May he wsn't really born at all <smile>. The only consistent thing is his parents names: Joseph Stebbins and Marie (Mary) Lavalle (Lavalley). I estimated their birth dates based on Felix's. I am a novice at genealogy and really don't know where to look in Quebec or how to search for anything prior to 1800, which I use the on line PRDH for. I don't know if this is relevant or not. Many of members of my family have an "Indian" look, and traditionally we are told there was Indian blood in the Gregory family. Haven't been able to get past Zar Gregory who settled in Saranac in the early 1800s, married Sally Hopper about 1811. I think Sally was the daughter of Lambert Hopper who was an early settler of Plattsburg/Saranac. There is a similarity between Hopper and Harper, depending on how one pronounces it. (Lambert's line is Dutch and goes back to Orange/Rockland counties, but we don't know anything about his first wife Abbey except her date of death and age at the time.) Most of the Hopper line appears to disappear from Clinton Co by the 1830s when at least 3 of Lambert's sons were in western NY/PA and IL. Hi Wayne, Thanks for the tips, but I had already visited the USGENWEB Clinton site and found nothing for Stebbins or LaValle or different spellings. Given Champlain's proximity to Canada, I am being to believe they may have been born in Canada and maybe at one time just lived in Champlain. Thank you for taking the time to answer my post. Have you searched the Mclellan Cemetery records available online at the USGENWEB site for Clinton County NY, and have you all tried spelling variations on the surname Stebbins? I have more than 35 variations in spelling just on my surname Weatherwax. The town clerk was correct about NY birth records, since all early records of this type were maintianed at the local town level, often these files if they existed were either lost or destroyed,or thrown out as not necessary.
